September 2, 2004
Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES:
The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the August minutes with the correction that Betty Fuller was
at the August Library Board Meeting. Barney Snitz made the motion to accept the minutes with the correction,and
Betty Fuller seconded the motion.
NOTE: Betty Fuller brought this issue to Karan's attention prior to the meeting and the attendance correction was
made with Susan Crim in the City Secretary's office.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
JoAnn introduced Janet Frey,Librarian II Youth Department. Janet reports that she had 2496 attend the summer
programs and 1875 in the Summer Reading Program. Janet reported the"Teen Room"has reopened as the Young
Adult Area for after school homework and a study area. A set of text books,reference books,and magazines are
available in the Young Adult Area.
JoAnn also introduced Danene Hudson. Danene has work at the Library since April 2003 as a part-time Librarian
Assistant. She is now full-time Librarian Assistant in the Youth Department and is attending TWU.
Mike McGehee inquired about the behavior of the after school kids. Janet Frey has a 3:00pm briefing with staff and
things seem to be under control. Youth has added after school programs to keep the kids busy in the Conference
Room:
Library Travelers on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30
(Books,films,crafts,trivia and more!)
Art Day on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30
(Help make a Children's Book Week Quilt!)
Chill Out on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30
(Games,puzzles,movies,and more!)
JoAnn reports that Tammi Trull has put the newsletter back into production. We also have a television setup on a
loop with information about voting and getting people to vote in November. It is located in front of the Reference
Desk.
Sherry spoke about library advocacy. The whole idea is to"make an impression"and have facts that you could
share about the Library when the opportunity presents itself. Our monthly statistics will be presented in a way to
help the board remember facts to share.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
1. Parking Lot stripes will be done after October 1 with other city projects
2. Willie Mae McCormick health
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Barney,Betty and JoAnn to attend the System Assembly Meeting in September
2. Casino Night is November 6,2004 at the Texas Star
3. Application for Board Members needs to be to Susan Crim by September 24th
4. Drainage and improved walkways on the west side of the building in the works
_ 5. Library will have Christmas lights this year
6. New carpet is being installed in the Meeting Room before the end of September
7. Chris McAllister and Betty Fuller would like to see us really dress up the Library next year for Back to
School
8. The library hosted 50 school librarians from HEB for a Back to School lunch.
9. Resource students from Trinity High School come four times per week for one hour to learn working skills.
They work under the supervision of their teacher.
10. Euless Library Foundation has all but$25,000 of the funds needed for the`Blooms of Enlightment"art
project.
11. Friends of the Library Book Sale is September 24,25 and 26
CITIZEN INPUT:
Glenn Porterfield reports that the City Council appreciates the work of this Library and all the programs. The
council is very happy to support the services of the Library for the community.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Barney Snitz and seconded by Christopher
McAllister. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
