REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
JoAnn reports that the newsletter is back and that Tammi Trull has done a wonderful job with the information,
design, and distribution. The newsletter is available on the webpage. We were awarded a$500.00 grant that
Tammi Trull applied for from NTRLS. The grant was used for material for Twin Bridge.
The Youth Department was very busy this summer. The Junior Volunteers posted over 1500 hours. Janet Frey did
a wonderful job with the events—even when they didn't happen. Terry Glenn of the Dallas Cowboys was scheduled
to be here and due to weather he was stranded in Houston. The Cowboy organization had pizza and soda delivered
and the wives of some of the cowboys read to the kids. We had newspaper coverage in the Fort Worth Star
Telegram even though the event did not go as planned. Linda Evers,Librarian I,was introduced to the Board.
Linda has been with the Library as a Librarian Assistant,PT but was recently promoted to Librarian I. She brings
lots of experience and ideas from many years of teaching and her work with the Saint Petersburg Library in St.
Petersburg Florida.
Beverly McCalmont and the Outreach Program continue to have positive feedback for the public. A power point
presentation to the City Council is scheduled for September. The library is now doing a route,route#2,with Meals
on Wheels on Friday. Staff is volunteering to go each week.
Karan reports that we had a total of 6 volunteers for the month of August for a total of 106 volunteer hours. We had
4 events in the meeting room with a total of 387 in attendance for the month "The Two Buck,Ten Buck Souper
Summer Soup-off was a success. Staff competition was a great team building exercise for everyone. Barney was
one of three judges.
The new Starbucks opened on Highway 183 and Industrial—next to the Denney's with free coffee drinks and
pastries. All donations and tips were given to the Euless Library Foundation art project.
JoAnn also reported that the statues were cleaned this week. Facilities have a contract for all statues in the city to be
clean twice a year by an outside company. The Answer Zone is moving along with 24/7 coverage effective
October 1,and the Texas Book Festival that was started by Laura Bush is November 12th and 13th in Austin. On
August 9th the local school Librarians will be here for a luncheon that is being hosted by Janet Frey,Linda Evers,
and Danene Hudson of the Youth Department.
