HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-06-03 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES June 3, 2004 Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT OTHERS Mike McGehee JoAnn Rogers-at Budget Meeting Alex Horton Barney Snitz Karan Jasper LuAnn Portugal Sherry Knight Chris McAllister Marcia Brown Adriane Weinstein-excused Kathy Grove DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the May minutes. Barney Snitz made the motion to accept the minutes and Chris McAllister seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: Sherry Knight presented the Library Report for JoAnn. Sherry handed out the Monthly Report and asked for questions. She also handed out the Summer Reading Club information and gave a report on Twin Bridge. Beverly has two Vietnamese volunteers at Twin Bridge that tutor the children in math skills. This summer these volunteers have started a Chess and Checkers club. The invitation from Hurst Public Library to the"Poems and Promises"art dedication was passed around to all of the board members and encouraged anyone to attend that could. Sherry also passed around the article about the Foundation reception at Pete Allen's house that was written by Joy Donovan of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The Dallas Cowboys are working with Janet Frey and the Youth Department to have Terry Glen do a story time program this summer. The date has not been set for this event. Karan reports that she had 7 volunteers this month for a total of 89 volunteer hours. We had fourteen events in the Library Meeting room with over 400 people in attendance for the month. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: JoAnn challenged the board to go out into a section of the library they don't normally visit and find something new. Here are the results: 1. Barney: Graphic novels in the youth department,Encyclopedia on Shakespeare,and the book"My Father and Me." He was surprised that we already had the book available. 2. Chris: Magazines on how to publish books and information on small business. 3. Kathy: The coupons in the magazine area. 4. Marcia: The art displays and the number of large print books. 5. Mike: He found 2 things. He was surprised to find the scrap booking class going on the library. He found information on when his family came to Texas in Genealogy. NEW BUSINESS: 1. LuAnn Portugal inquired on the status of the leak in the southeast corner of the library. 2. LuAnn Portugal praised the displays in the cases. 3. Mike McGehee reported he came to the Genealogy lock-in. 4. Mike McGehee reported on the success of the reception at Pete Allen's house. ELF received$7500 in cash and commitments as a result of the reception. 5. Barney Snitz passed on praise about the new employee in Youth,Linda Evers. Yea Linda!! 6. Barney Snitz also passed on positive feedback with the new setup in Adult Reference. 7. Chris McAllister suggested having a Harry Potter party for the Youth in connection of the release of the new movie. 8. A vote by the board to not have a meeting in July was unanimous. Next regularly scheduled Library Board Meeting will be on Thursday,August 5,2004. CITIZEN INPUT: Alex Horton reported that Tarrant County officials had approved the signature petition for Wine Sales in Euless. Election is scheduled for September 11,2004. Early voting is scheduled to begin on August 23,2004 in the Meeting Room of the Library. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn.
