Luann Portugal made the motion to accept the minutes and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: JoAnn introduced Janet Frey,Librarian II Youth Department. Janet reported that a"Night of 100 Stars"a 15-year old project started by Betty Yarbrough was, again,a big success. Betty Yarbrough and Mayor Saleh attended and read to the audience. We had approximately 55 people attend the event. Janet also reported that the Summer Reading Club theme this year is"Color Your World...Read"will kick off on May 27th, and they have several events planned for this summer. A new program Blue Bonnet Mentors will be on Mondays. This is a hand selected group of Junior Volunteers that will work with and read to the other children. Story times will continue as scheduled in the past. Our new part-time employee,Linda Evers, has planned events for the after school children. On Tuesday she has Passports and the children will go to a different country each week,Wednesday afternoons they do crafts, and they have"Chill Out"Thursdays and the children can pick what activity they want for the afternoon. The Summer Reading Club will close out with an Ice Cream Social. Anyone wanting to volunteer for events are always welcomed. As a convience to the parents the Youth Department has developed a new section called"Parents Reference Area"that has parenting books, bibliographies, movie ratings, etc. JoAnn handed out flyers for all the events this month in the Library. National Library Week begins April 19t. We are having many events in the Library including Employee Appreciation Day with a breakfast for the staff. We are helping the Animal Shelter with"Help The Furry Friends." Donations of items for the Animal Shelter in exchange to clear off past due library fees. We had a great response to the AARP IRS Tax Return assistance program this year. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1. The Study Room Survey is complete. The comments indicate that our current practice is working. The staff did not see any reason to continue the 24-hour in advance reservation requirement. We will use the Library Board Room as an emergency overflow providing it has not been setup for another meeting. NEW BUSINESS: 1. A parent called with concerns about our video collection. She had checked out one that she felt was inappropriate. The staff went back and looked at the J and JV videos and found two PG-13 and they have been reassigned. Movies in the childrens department will be rates"G"or"PG". Videos in the media section will have various ratings or perhaps have not been rated. The Library Board members have always been encouraged to listen to concerned citizens and refer them to the Director on any issues. 2. Beverly McCalmont, our Outreach Librarian, mailed out a survey to the senior citizens that receive Meals on Wheels to see if they would like to have materials delivered. The feedback was very positive. Two years ago Sherry Knight offered space at the Library to Meals on Wheels for volunteers to pickup and deliver meals in the area. Beverly has taken it a step further. The books will be delivered with their meals and the library will develop a schedule for returning the items. 3. Arbor Daze is April 23-25`h. We are looking for volunteers. See Karan to sign up. 4. JoAnn showed the Pat Summerall film"Euless: Best Managed Small City in America" CITIZEN INPUT: None ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn.
