REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Chris Dennis,Librarian III Adult Reference gave a demonstration with a handout of the TexShare Info Recourses
from the Texas State Library database. This service has been available to the library free of charge until this year
and we now pay to have the valuable service available to our staff and patrons. We will be offering training classes
to educate the public on this service. We will advise the board when the class dates have been established.
Janet Frey and the youth librarians have some wonderful projects in the works for after school and summer. Janet
will present her plans at our meeting in April. After school issues are getting better. We still have to watch closely
but we feel we have turned a corner. Linda Evers, our new part-time Assistant Librarian, has some wonderful ideas
for the after school group. This month is Bear Month in the Youth Department. Pictures are being made with the
bear and the photos are on display.
Upcoming Events:
March 8th: Soon Young Warren Watercolor Demonstration
March 12th to 14th: Friends of the Library Book Sale
March 17th: Spring Fling for 6th to 9th graders
March 17th: Internet Class
March 22nd: Hobey Ford Puppet Show
March 23rd and 27th: "Best Kept Secrets for Winning Scholarships"
March 24th: Internet Class
March 29th: Scrap booking Class
February programs were very successful with over sixty at each event. The Friends of the Library are looking for
volunteers for the sale. Contact Karan or Norann Lustfield if you can help. We have new displays across from the
Circulation desk that we are using to show off our fancy work that was produced on the new poster machine. We
have decided to purchase the online Chilton Auto Guides from EBSCO. The online service will have automobiles
back to the early 1950's. This will free up space in the library from the large volumes of back issues.
Mid-Cities Genealogy Society is planning a lock-in in May with the South Euless Junior High School AP. Social
Studies class to encourage family history projects.
JoAnn and Sherry just returned from PLA in Seattle. May"best practices"were shared and good ideas for
innovative services and streamlining were presented.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
1. Study Room Survey: Tammi Trull reported that we received 30 responses to the survey. Overall the
survey indicates we are doing a good job. We are looking at dropping the 24-hour advance reservation,
limit the time to 2 hours to use the room, and using the Conference Room(by the Youth Department)if
necessary. We will open up the Teen Room again for homework. JoAnn continues to look into the option
of two people study rooms in the Reference area.
NEW BUSINESS:

2. Violence in the Workplace book is available at the Carrollton Police Department. Our library is equipped
with a first aid kit, defibrillator, evacuation plan, flashlights in the rooms, and an Emergency/Panic button
is at the front(circulation)desk.
3. Barney inquired as to who checked the battery on the defibrillator. Karan will check with the fire
department and report at the next meeting.
