Additional Comments from JoAnn Rogers:
This is a pretty exciting time at the Library! May 28 was the busiest day in the Library's history
with 2,480 items checked out. Circulation was almost 36% higher in April and 21% higher in
May than last year. As it is possible for JoAnn to provide a break down of how many patrons are
from Euless, and how many are from other cities, she will do so at the next meeting. In addition
to circulation increasing, Internet usage is through the roof, and programming is up 15% this
month.
JoAnn read thank-you letters from a Bedford couple who participated in the M.C.G.S.'s lock in
and from the Chamber of Commerce for visiting and distributing Tippin's pies to five area
businesses on their behalf. • The Friends of the Euless Library bought the Library a grill which
was used for a chicken cook out to kick off the Summer Reading Program. • The Library
Foundation donated the book Chihuly Projects by Dale Chihuly to the Library in honor of Mike
McGehee.
The Library has two new part-time employees for the summer, Oscar Benitz and Gleen Boyette,
and a permanent part-time employee, Leah Bennett. • Leticia Villegas is the Employee of the
Quarter. • The Library recently implemented handing out "stroke notes"to its employees. It is a
way to keep morale up as the notes say a variety of encouraging statements, may be personalized,
and are available to everyone for distribution.
The Library's Tech Team distributed their most recent "Quick Bytes" handout regarding TIF
(Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund). As the Euless Library is one of TIF's biggest
recipients with three TIF grants to date, the handout is very informational as it not only tells the
history of TIF, but it also tells what the Library has done with the approximately $250,000.00 it
has received. The Library is currently working on another TIF grant, which may be its last, as TIF
will"sunset"in 2005.
The Masterworks series and the Library are having the Terikis Polynesia Musical Dance Review
on Monday, June 10. For more information about this and other upcoming events, please refer to
the June newsletter.
The Library's Meeting Room is a very popular place as people really do love to use this room. A
new podium and two instructor stands were recently ordered, and work on the room divider will
start in August with completion in October.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Coolers are now on the fountains, and the water is as cold as ice. • Planning has started for the
next birthday party in July where Brave Combo is scheduled to perform.
Traditionally, the Library Board foregoes the July meeting. The Chairman asked for a motion to
be made for the Library Board to not meet in July. Alex Horton made the motion for the Library
Board to not meet in July, and Barney Snitz seconded the motion. The motion was passed so the
next Library Board meeting will be held in August.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
The Pecos Bill play was excellent, and there were about 85 —90 people in attendance. • No new
information is available regarding the glass art work project as the artist is in Italy for the summer.
• A copy of the article Kate Lyon wrote for the Public Libraries journal March/April 2002 issue
was distributed for all Board Members to read.
It was noted again the morale in the Library is awesome, and the Team who perpetuates the
morale is incredible. The changes made previously have really been positive ones. We have a
phenomenal Library Staff with the customer being well served.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made to adjourn by Alex Horton
and seconded by Kathy Grove. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted
