Additional Comments from JoAnn Rogers:
The Library has had an increase in usage and is pleased with the circulation numbers. To
illustrate the increase, see the February and January Check out Explosion charts.
Remember, the charts only show the number of items checked out and do not reflect the
traffic the Library received. As discussed previously, the increase in usage goes back to
the Collection and Development Plan of giving the people what they want — such as
increasing the number of copies of The Wall Street Journal to two due to the demand.
There is a Master Works program on Monday, March 11, with Joy Cunningham, which
should be good. It is Bear Month again at the Library so bring your favorite bear in and
have your picture taken with it. The Friends of the Euless Library have provided the film
for this event as they have for years. Speaking of the Friends, their Spring Book Sale is
coming up the weekend of March 15. As before, there will be a "First Nighter" sale on
the Friday, March 15.
The Euless Library Foundation is sponsoring a trip to Shreveport/Bossier City to "The
Isle of Capri" on Saturday, April 13. Tickets may be purchased at the Circulation Desk.
For more information, please refer to the handout. The Arbor Daze Auction/Silent
Auction held this past Saturday, March 2, made over $2000.00 more than last year and
was well represented by City Employees. The City of Euless will be hosting an Open
House on Saturday, March 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Friends are providing
food for the Library, and JoAnn would like the Board Members to help, as the Library
Staff will not be increased that day. The Library would really appreciate our presence as
well as any help we can give them.
The NTRLS Regional Meeting will be Thursday, April 18. Betty Fuller and Barney Snitz
will attend the meeting with JoAnn. This is where they will find out what the Library can
do with its system. The Texas Library Association's Annual Conference is being held in
Dallas this year, and the Friends, Trustees, and Advocates Round Table Luncheon is on
Wednesday, April 24. As Members, the Library Board is invited to attend. Please let
JoAnn or Karan Jasper know if you plan on attending by Monday, March 18.
The Library has a "Vulnerable Child Policy" handout, which is given to patrons when
they sign up for a new Library card. The Library also plans to have posters around the
Library, which will reference the "Vulnerable Child Policy". For about a year, the
Library has been designated as a "Safe Place". This means children are encouraged to
come to the Library in the event they are being followed. So far, no one has
misinterpreted that a "Safe Place" means it is a Safe Place where parents may drop off
their children.
The Library Budget is due Tuesday, March 26, and the Library Staff get to participate by
requesting what they want (but may not get). The money for the computer system
upgrade was released from the City about 10 days ago so the next step is for the Library
to get three bids. It is hoped the computer upgrade will be done late August/early
September. The Library has applied for an L.S.T.A. Grant (Library Services Technology
Account) in order to provide Library Services in South Euless to the unserved citizens
there.
JoAnn met with Jo Bullin from the Mid-Cities Genealogical Society about the Genealogy
Collection. They moved the material, which is not catalogued, and put it into the back
where they will do an inventory. The M.C.G.S. is very involved, and Jane Aronhalt is
taking a week off in March to help with the Genealogy Collection. The plan is to clean
up the collection, to get multiple copies of new books on how to get started on genealogy,
and to analyze what is left. The Friends of the Euless Library will donate money to
purchase the new books. The Library and the M.C.G.S. are working together to make the
genealogical collection a vital one.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
The Library Foundation needs Volunteers for Arbor Daze 2002 to work in the VIP Tent
(to serve the Sponsors) and in the Cooking Tent(to sell the Chefs' cookbooks). Please
let Alex Horton know if you can help the Foundation by volunteering for either of these
events. As added inducements, in addition to having fun, volunteers will also get a VIP
Parking Pass and a T-shirt.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
None.
CITIZEN INPUT:
None.
ADJOURNMENT:
The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Alex Horton and
seconded by LuAnn Portugal. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Grove
