The end of the Summer Program was celebrated with a Pizza Party, Karaoke, and a Certificate of Appreciation showing the Volunteer's name and number of volunteer hours. The Junior Volunteers are very enthusiastic and like to do a lot of little things to help the Youth Department Librarians. Shannon Oram is in charge of the Junior Volunteer Group. The Library has added a lot of new things in the past two and a half years without adding Staff. The Library will be getting money for landscaping improvements that Johnny Green, in the Parks Department will begin this fall. In the meantime, the statues are being cleaned with the help of rain and a lot of elbow grease. The City also granted the Library's request for Polaris which will give more help in searching other Library's catalogs. Library patrons will also be able to access any Library's catalog from their home computers. JoAnn put together a list of 24 Outside Organizations with which the Library interacts and meeting rooms are needed. The Library is doing more Staff Training. The Staff will be working with Tony Burnett of the Euless Police Department next Tuesday and Thursday morning on building security, and then CPR Training will be conducted by Jeff Morris of the Euless Fire Department. More training will be done with the Hurst Public Library on how to work better. While the Midway Rec Center is closed, the Library will be providing space for all kind of events such as Karate, Tai Chi, and Yoga Classes. Sherry Moeller was named Employee of the Quarter Award for September — December. For her recognition, she received framed award, a gift of cash, and will have a special parking place. Sherry has really gone out of her way to make things work for the Library. Congratulations, Sherry! The TIF grant awards were announced, and the Library received a grant for $99,994.00. Another color laser printer will be purchased making two available to the patrons, a circulation station will be added to the Drive-up, and ten laptops will be purchased for a mobil/wireless classroom. The mobil/wireless classroom will be controlled by the Library and will be used for training classes. The Library will get eight PCs with 21" monitors and ADA furniture. With past TIF grants, a video projector was purchased and now the Library will be able to get a better projector screen. All of these improvements will be completed by February. The Lone Star Libraries Direct Aid to Libraries was passed by the Texas Legislature. This makes the Library eligible for approximately $8398.00 if the Library meets the State's criteria to serve anybody in Texas. JoAnn is working closely with other Public Library Directors in determining how this will affect Library. While this would open the doors to a bigger collection, the State's criteria goes beyond reciprocity especially for citizens of cities without libraries. JoAnn will keep us informed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The Annual Foundation Meeting will be held Monday September 17 in the Main Conference Room at 7:00 p.m. There will be a presentation of the landscaping and future works of Art the Foundation would like to have. Members of the Foundation are meeting with Gary McKamie and Mayor Mary Lib Saleh next week regarding the future plans. One of the concepts the Foundation has is to finish off the north end with a brick sculpture wall. A San Antonio Artist from Sculpture Works may be at the meeting to discuss the sculpture wall. Finally. The Aquarium is up and running again, and it did not cost the Library thanks to a 5 year maintenance contract. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Welcome to one of our newest Board Members, Marcia Brown, who is an Oakwood Terrace Librarian. We are really happy to have Marcia here on the Board. Everyone was very happy to have Sheila Williams back. She always brings us good news regarding technological advances and grant money. The Board would also like to welcome our esteemed guests, Councilman Charlie Miller and Parks and Community Services Director Rick Herold. It is always good to have them at our meetings. Maria Cameron, a Library Student at UNT, Chairman of the Library Board in Southlake, and a Board Member of the NTRLS also joined us. Maria chose Euless Public Library to do her practicum because of the Library's great reputation. Friends of the Euless Public Library will be holding their annual Fall Book Sale the fourth weekend in September. The Fall Book Sale Hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday the 22" and from 1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday the 23`d when it will be free to the public. Come on out and support the Friends. The North Texas Regional Library System recently issued their 2002 Calendar, and there are three pieces of art from the Euless Library featured in it. It was suggested we have a future Board Meeting at the new Parks and Community Services building. It was also suggested a chiller on the water fountains would be nice—especially on hot days. Board Member Barney Snitz was missed, but we encourage and support him in his participation in the Citizens of the Fire Department Class. Gracie Reyes was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict. CITIZEN INPUT: None. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn.
