The Euless Library offers GED and ESL classes on Mondays and Tuesday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. during the school year. The Board was invited to attend and observe this incredible program. • A"Books on CD"brochure was also distributed which lists available CD titles. As with all library materials, there is no limit as to how many CD books may be checked out at one time. JoAnn did a memo to the Library Staff regarding pet peeves in the work place. As a result of the feedback she received, several changes have been made such as providing kleenex and keeping staplers by the copy machines. • JoAnn also passed out copies of the budget to the Library Staff and asked for their input as to what they had to have, what would be nice to have, and so on, along with their reasoning and supporting documentation as to why they think something is needed. This is one way for issues to be brought up which might otherwise not be addressed. • For Valentine's Day,the$2.00 Buck Club will decorate a valentine bag or box, and the entries will be judged for the nicest, the tackiest, etc. The Texas Library Association Conference will be in March. In the meantime, JoAnn and several members of the Library Staff will go to Austin for Legislative Day as the state library budget is being considered at this time. In preparation for this event, they have emailed and faxed Chris Harris and Todd Smith letters regarding the Loan Star Libraries Program. Additional handouts were given to the Board regarding the Loan Star Libraries Program, and the Board was again encouraged to contact their legislators. JoAnn reminded everyone that the Library Catalog may be accessed on any computer, and that the computer screen tells patrons what is on the computers such as Catalog, Literary Criticism, and so on. • On March 24`h,the Library Foundation will be hosting a Murder Mystery play and dinner. Tickets are$30.00, and everyone was asked to attend. • New pictures of the Library Board will be taken at next month's meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: JoAnn is still searching for an available date to hold an open house for the City Council, the Library Foundation, the Friends, and the Library Board to show off the 30 new computers. • She is also searching for an available date to have a potluck dinner with the City Council, the Library Foundation, the Friends, and the Library Board. She is considering April during Volunteer Week for this event. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: The Library Board was introduced to"The Four Philosophies of Fish"through a 15 minute video showcasing the Pike Place Fish Company along with several handouts from the training sessions provided by the City of Euless'Rick Herold. The film, and the handouts, were inspirational. Sheila Williams gave a presentation regarding the technology of the past, present, and future, and the services they provide. In the past, the Library had two computers and was limited to print magazines. Now,thanks to the'[IF grant and the City of Euless, the Library has 30 new computers which offer such services as an on-line catalog, literary criticism, edu-games for children, Internet browsing and Email, and office production(e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). As for the future, Sheila gave the Library Board a hands-on presentation of E-books, a Browser, and a Palm Pilot. The Library is wanting to maintain a balance regarding its collection by looking ahead but also by keeping traditional things, too, such as books. To do this, a two year collection and development plan is in the works with the Library looking at future technology. This year's Masterworks Series starts February 12th with Euless' own Rhythm Nation at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to attend. It was noted that the displays in the Library are good, and that the dynamics of the Library have changed making the Euless Library an exciting and unique Library with the ability to grow. • It was also noted there has been an extended effort of making the Library more quiet with the Staff going out among the patrons. • The Library is exploring the idea of getting a wireless camera for monitoring the Youth Department. CITIZEN INPUT: None. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Barney Snitz and seconded by LuAnn Portugal.
