The motion was passed to accept the minutes as corrected(The word"in"was left out of the first sentence in the third paragraph in the REPORTS FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR between "advertise"and"a"). REPORTS FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: September, 2000—see attached. Additional comments: A new awning was added to the drive-up window to make it more customer friendly during inclement weather, and there are new ropes at the check out area which are designed to keep patrons moving along and to prevent the staff from having to referee and determine who was next. JoAnn has 30 personnel evaluations due by October 30 of the Library Staff. Thanks are due to the Library Staff for raising $95.00 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by paying$5.00 per person for the privilege of wearing jeans to work. If anyone is interested, JoAnn has applications for the "Texas Reads" license plates from which all proceeds go directly to supporting Texas libraries. The 2000 Texas Book Festival will be held in Austin November 10-12. This is a very big book festival with all proceeds benefiting Texas public libraries. If anyone wants information regarding the festival, it can be found on the Internet. JoAnn gave the Board a packet of information regarding the Texas Library Association's Legislative Day which will be held February 7,2001 in Austin. The Board is to let her know if anyone is able to attend. The Library will be required to close for approximately 9 hours in November in order to get the 30 new computers installed out front. In anticipation of that move, the Library will load the software into the computers while they are still in the back. Procedures and signage will also need to be done prior to then. Kate Lyons is leaving the Euless Library and going to the Farmers Branch Library where she will be Assistant Director. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Mike McGehee noted the Literary Lone Stars event on September 18th was not only well attended and fun,but also that the Library did a great job which was much appreciated. This is the type of event which really gets people involved and lets them get to know the authors up close and personal. The Library Foundation is continuing to work on acquiring more sculptures for the Library. The Foundation has come up with a proposal regarding the landscaping for this building and additional works of art. The Library Foundation is hosting Casino Night 2000 on Saturday, October 28th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dr. Pepper Star Center. JoAnn Rogers is working with the Euless Fire Department to do CPR training with the Library Staff the first or second Friday of November along with fire extinguisher training at the end of November as part of the Library's continuing efforts in developing its Emergency/Disaster Plan. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: The non-partisan voting display table looks great. If anyone wants information regarding the candidates' positions, this information may be found on the League of Women Voters Web site. Each month 800 copies of"The Library Times"newsletter is printed with 200 of them being mailed out. The Library will check into the cost effectiveness of doing a bulk mail out to save on postage. The ultimate goal is for the Library to distribute the newsletter online. Currently, the Euless Library is one of the few libraries in the area which has a newsletter. The Friends of the Euless Library raised approximately$1300.00 from their book sale in September. The Youth Department will get$1000.00 from that sale.
