Tom Cox also visited the Library Board. Besides enlightening us as to what he does for the City of Euless,he also gave us an opportunity to ask questions regarding the Library as well as other city projects. Tom, who is also a reader and a Library user, discussed some of the improvements he would like to see for the Library (e.g. improving the drainage in the sculpture garden and adding better plants there, getting a power washer to remove the gum from the red brick, improving the care and maintenance of the tile in the lobby, reducing the trash which collects on the Library grounds, etc.). The Library Staff has received favorable comments from the library patrons regarding the travel display and the military display. A Bedford resident even complimented the Library on its newsletter, customer service, and new drive up window. Out of all the area Libraries, she likes Euless' the best. The drive up window is in service and is being used. There are plans to install an over-hang over it. The Library is going to have non-partisan voting displays to encourage voting this presidential election. In an effort to promote quiet areas in the Library, "Quiet Study Area" signs have been located in designated areas. The Library Staff will enforce these quiet areas. In order to determine where the air conditioning problems are, the temperature is being monitored by five thermometers placed by the sensors so discrepancies may be checked and problems corrected. The Library is having a birthday on July 8th. Besides celebrating with costumed characters and cake, the Library is introducing its new Library Card with key tag. New patrons will get the cards without charge. However, patrons with current cards who want the new Library Card and key tag will be charged$2.00. JoAnn and Sheila gave us an update regarding the Northeast Tarrant County's"Connect Tarrant" project. This project involves getting kiosks established around the area with all the services listed for Northeast Tarrant County. It would be an information portal for city services, tourism, area school systems, hospitals, and other non-profit organizations. Besides the kiosks, all the terminals in the Euless Library would have access to this site. A grant for$500,000.00 has been applied for,but they won't know until the middle of August if they'll get it. The grant would pay for the design of the Web page. C:\My Documents\Ellen\june minutes.doc UNFINISHED BUSINESS: In the quest for finishing out the bottom of the aquarium, it was suggested a thin layer of broken pieces of seashells be added to the bottom to make it look complete. Unfortunately, aquariums with bottom materials need a massive water flow, and our aquarium was not designed that way. The Library is still working on the E-mail list and is testing it in-house. The plan is to use it for sending out the newsletter and Library information. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: The Library Foundation recently visited the Fort Worth Library's Sculpture Works in which they learned about the making and the caring of bronze statues. They would like to have a Sculpture Works show at the Euless Library where the sculptor would work on his art here from beginning to end over a two-week period. As a follow up to the Sculpture Works show, the Library Foundation is having a meeting on June 3rd at 9:00 in the Children's Area to discuss the future of the sculpture garden. Five artists have been invited to present a three-year plan to complete the sculpture garden. Having a three-year plan would allow the Foundation to apply for grants rather than completing the sculpture garden piece by piece. Mike McGehee made a motion to continue our July Sabbatical. Wes Scott seconded the motion, which met with no objections. Sheila Williams is back at our meetings, and we are glad to have her here as she has been missed. Kathy Grove is also back, and we are very appreciative of the great job LuAnn Portugal did as Acting Secretary in her absence. We again thank Tom Cox for his visit as we enjoyed having him here. CITIZEN INPUT: None. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Alex Horton and seconded by LuAnn Portugal. The meeting was adjourned at 8:23 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Kathy Grove Euless Library Board Secretary C:\My Documents\Ellen\june minutes.doc
