EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
April 6,2000
Acting Chairman Barney Snitz called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES:
Barney Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes. Alex Horton made the motion to accept
the minutes, and Betty Fuller seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

Additional comments
Popular horticulturist,Neil Sperry will appear at the Library on Sunday April 30'to coincide
with Arbor Daze.
The TIF Grant has been approved and a second grant request has been submitted. This will allow
for thirty additional Personal Computers. The additional power supply needed has already been
approved.
The drive up window is set to begin basic service on May 1". In preparation, the staff has been
practicing with different scenarios in anticipation of start up.
An initial order of about 200 DVD's will allow the Library to offer its patrons a new form of
media available for check out.
Check It Out Yourself Day is scheduled for April 10th. The company that makes our self-check
out machine is sponsoring this event in honor of National Libraries Week. Contingent on the
amount of use that day,the Library has an opportunity to win up to $2,500 for new book fund.
Notary and fax service has now been added to the list of available services provided by the
Library.
JoAnn Rogers was absent from Board meeting to attend her daughter's wedding
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
The library emergency plan that is currently under development was utilized during March 28
tornado warnings. The staff was well prepared and was able to handle patrons in the library in a
very efficient and safe manner.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
Chairman Mike McGehee was absent from meeting due to surgery, the Board wishes him a
speedy recovery. Secretary Kathy Grove has been absent due to her participation in the City of
Euless' Citizen Police program. Kathy will return for the June Board meeting upon her
completion of the program.
Lending periods of books and videos has been questioned and clarified. The time allowed for
checkout is three weeks for all materials in the library that are available for loan with no limit for
a patron to check out.
A subscription list for the library of patrons' e-mail addresses is being considered for
development. The possibilities for its use are monthly newsletter,reserve notices, notices of new
collections, and late return reminders.
Concern was expressed about unsupervised children in the library. The standard rule for staff is
to attempt to catch up with child's parent and advise about unattended children. It was also noted
that this an ongoing issue that all libraries constantly must deal with.
The youth lock-in at the Library was a huge success. Sixth through ninth graders were invited
and fun was had by all. The Fort Worth Star Telegram gave the event great photographic
coverage.From snakes to story tellers,the staff went above and beyond in the planning and
carrying out of this youth activity.
