STAFF GUEST OF THE BOARD:
Kate Lyon, Adult Services Supervisor, is over the Reference Department and knows the
library from top to bottom. Even though she has been with the Euless Library for
approximately 3-1/2 months, she was familiar with the library as a patron as she is a
resident of Euless. Being over the Reference Department, Kate has noticed the Internet is
receiving increased usage from patrons most notably from adults coming into the library
to surf the net on their lunch hour as well as from students required to use the Internet as
a reference source. Likewise, she is using the Internet more and more for answers and
finds it rewarding when she can help other people.

Better signage was suggested for the south side of the library that fronts Highway 183.
Clarification was asked for regarding the Library's policy about saving newspapers for
patrons who request they be saved in lieu of recycling them. It is unfortunate, but there is
no way that the Library can save the papers. It is the Library's concern that if papers
were saved for one patron, a precedent would be set, and they'd have to save newspapers
for every patron. Procedurally, the newspapers are recycled by a Library Page on an on-
going basis and are available to the patrons until they are recycled. It was suggested that
a color copier be obtained as it is the color pictures from the paper that are being
requested.
It was suggested that the videos be categorized(Children, Adults, etc.) and filed
accordingly. JoAnn and Sheila said they will be discussing this with Meredith and
studying the available video space to see what can be done to accommodate this
suggestion.
It was questioned as to whether or not any books had been challenged recently, and what
the procedure was when a patron challenges a book. No books have been challenged
recently. However, if a patron were to challenge a book, there is a policy in place to deal
with the request.
JoAnn offered to keep the Members of the Board informed about Library issues and to
pass along documentation which might be of interest to us. At this meeting, she passed
out the Library's Mission Statement, Roles, Goals, and Objectives and First Amendment
Quotes.
