MINUTES
January 7, 1999
Chairman Charles McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

STAFF GUEST OF THE BOARD:
Jeanne Green, Librarian I, works in the Adult Reference Department. She answers
reference questions, assists patrons using computers, prepares displays and fills in when
needed in the Children's Department.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES:
There was one misspelled word on line 5 under Staff Guest: "aids" instead of"AIDES."
The minutes stood approved as corrected by our Chairperson, Charles McGehee.
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: December 1998
Betty Yarbrough reported December 1998 circulation information. New registrations:
349; 120 out of the city and 20 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 23,424. Total
Holdings: 77,268. Reference questions answered: 2,105. Video Cassettes Circulated:
3,442. There were 28 requests for Interlibrary Loans, 28 of which were received.
Genealogy Sign-ins: 34 of which 24 were Euless residents. Walk-in Traffic was 9,188.
In house use of materials was 4,321.
VOLUNTEERS: 16 volunteers contributing 22 hours.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS: We had 15 Storytime Sessions with 170 children and 76
adults. Outreach Programs: Headstart with 25 children and 3 adults, Midway Rec Pre-
School with 32 children and 6 adults, Reading Circle with 9 volunteers times 90 minutes.
OTHER PROGRAMS/TOURS:
Tour—Weeblos, 8 children and 5 adults.
Special Programs:
2 puppet shows with 98 children and 40 adults.
Parenting Center—2 adults.
ADULT PROGRAMS:
Second Sunday Spotlight —Attendance of 98 people in building. Starlight Friends, Inc.
sang Christmas carols in the library at the"point".
COMPUTER USE:
Internet: 675 people used it for 620.5 hours.
Word Processing and etc.: 169 used it for 185.25 hours.

OTHER REPORTS/BUSINESS:
1) New director—Administrator.
2) Interviewing for Circulation Supervisor
3) Portable signs—yes! Will soon have two more available— send memo to Johnnie
Green, Parks Department.
4) Legislative Day
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
The Parks and Leisure Services Department will let the Library advertise on their
portable billboards from time-to-time. Requests should be sent to Johnnie Green, Parks
Superintendent.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
Legislative Day in Austin: February 23. The TLA(Texas Library Association) is
recommending a number of funding requests to benefit all types(public, school,
academic) of Texas libraries.
Friends of the Library Book Sale is February 27-28 at North Hills Mall. Volunteers are
needed. The Chairperson this year is Norann Lustfield, president of the Friends.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
The Library Board unanimously elected the following candidates to serve as officers on
the Board:
Chairperson: Charles (Mike) McGehee
Vice Chairperson: Bernard Snitz
Secretary: Kathy Grove
SELECTION OF DIRECTOR TO EULESS LIBRARY FOUNDATION:
The Library Board elects one person to serve on the Library Foundation which meets the
second Monday of every month. Charles McGehee was selected by the Board to serve
another year.
The Chairperson, Charles McGehee, speaking for the Board, expressed the highest
appreciation and accolades for Betty Yarbrough's outstanding achievements as Library
Director and the delightful relationship with the Library Board.
CITIZEN INPUT:
None.
ADJOURNMENT:
Charles McGehee asked for a motion to adjourn. Motion was made by LuAnn Portugal
and seconded by Bernard Snitz. Charles adjourned the meeting at 7:57 p.m.
