Vice Chairperson Wesley Scott called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.

DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF THE TWO PREVIOUS MEETINGS:
October minutes: After the correction of one misspelled name, (Terry to Kerry)Betty
Fuller made the motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Kerry McGeath seconded it,
and the motion was passed.
November minutes: After the correction of one misspelled name, (Lou Ann to Lu Ann)
Bernard Snitz made the motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Betty Fuller seconded
the motion, and it was carried.
STAFF GUEST OF THE BOARD:
Paula McLain is our Assistant Circulation Supervisor. She handles the schedules of the
Circulation Department and Volunteers. She is in charge of their training and making
sure everyone is recognized who comes into the library and as they leave. Courtesy
makes happy patrons. She makes sure the returned books are reshelved by"her staff' of
12 Library Aids, the Circulation Aids and the Teen Court Volunteers who have passed
the"Shelving Test." Paula is from Euless and worked in the library as a teenager. We're
glad to have you Paula.
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: November 1998
Betty Yarbrough reported November 1998 circulation information. New registrations:
321; 103 out of the city and 9 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 23,690. Total
Holdings: 76,490. Reference questions answered: 2,104. Video Cassettes Circulated:
2,707. There were 30 requests for Interlibrary Loans, 22 of which were received.
Genealogy Sign-ins: 39 of which 24 were Euless residents. Walk-in Traffic was 8,025.
In house use of materials was 4,323.
VOLUNTEERS: 19 volunteers contributing 75.5 hours.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS: We had 18 Storytime Sessions with 241children and 83
adults. Outreach Programs: Headstart with 15 children and 2 adults, Midway Rec Pre-
School with 48 children and 7 adults, Reading Circle with 10 readers totaling 15 hours,
and North Euless Elementary with 3 librarians, totaling 6 hours and 23 classes
(Booktalks, puppetry, reader's theater). We had a Super Saturday III Program with 17
children and 7 adults (Origami).
OTHER PROGRAMS/TOURS:
Tour Rainbow School with 43 children and 13 adults.
Special Parenting Center with 2 adults.
ADULT PROGRAMS:
Second Sunday Spotlight—Attendance of 91. Flutasia—Flute group performed in library
at "point".
COMPUTER USE:
Internet: 395 people used it for 344.25 hours.
Word Processing and etc.: 136 used it for 172.5 hours.
LIBRARY MANAGER'S ACTIVITIES:
Library closed 6 working days (staff activities: visits to school and public libraries,
computer training, seminar on customer service)

NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
Betty Yarbrough presented the"Annual Report to Texas State Library& Archives
Commission." She was commended by the Board for the completeness of the report.
Is the Marquee in front of Bear Creek Park available for Library special functions? Can
we use it to draw attention to our great Library and what it offers our citizens?
Questions: Would it be feasible to close the Library for one day a year, or longer for staff
training? A LOT was accomplished by personnel during the 6 days we were closed to
repaint the ceiling. Special training was received: i.e., Shelly Byrd came and presented
computer training on Access and updated the skills of our staff.
January is election of Officers for the Library Board.
The duties of Alternates were read from our 1999 manual. Betty asked each new
alternate to meet the requirements laid out.
December 12th is the annual Christmas Parade. The Library Foundation will have an
entry. Betty Yarbrough will be on it.

A motion was made by Betty Fuller to adjourn, seconded by Liz Schoonover. Wesley
Scott adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
