EULESS LIBRARY BOARD
MINUTES
September 3, 1998
Secretary Elizabeth Schoonover called the Euless Library Board
meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.

DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
There were five corrections: Page 1 , line 5 under Library
Director ' s Report--73, 119 total holdings in June. Page 2,
line 14--"by" changed to Betty Yarbrough ( she had put her
initials, but not in CAPS) . Page 2, line 15, changed to Texas
"Municipal" League. Page 2, line 20, "by" changed to Betty
Yarbrough. Page 3, line 27--30 years.
Maxine Wallis moved we accept the minutes as revised. Bernard
Snitz seconded the motion.
SPECIAL GUEST OF THE BOARD:
Meredith McMannis, Youth Services Supervisor, spoke to us
briefly. She has been with the Euless Library 17 years in
February. Her duties are Reference, Outreach and Storytime
to our children. She also goes to schools visiting classes
telling stories, reading poetry, and informing them of the
services of the Euless Library. Many people in the surrounding
areas use the Euless Library. She encourages a love of reading
and continuing education. She enjoys helping people.
She also suggested we have an Exhibit of Autographed Books
during Book Week.
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: August, 1998
Betty Yarbrough reported August 1998 circulation information.
New registrations: 532; 142 out of the city and 6 out of the
county. Active Library Cards: 22,255. Total Holdings: 73, 839 .
Reference questions answered: 2, 538. Video Cassettes Circulated:
4, 534. There were 60 requests for Interlibrary Loans, 33 of
which were received. Genealogy Sign-ins: 71 of which 43 were
Euless residents. Walk-in Traffic was 10, 628 . In house use
of materials was 7, 497 .
VOLUNTEERS: 3 adults contributing 27 hours . 10 youth giving
28 hours for a grand total of 13 people contributing 55 hours.
CHILDREN 'S PROGRAMS: We had 15 Storytime sessions with 246
children and 90 parents. Outreach Programs: There were 2 with
31 children and 6 adults at Midway Recreation Preschool.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM: 12,839 hours read with 1 ,100 registered
children and 112 adults. There were 225 certificaters that
read 15 hours or more.
OTHER PROGRAMS/TOURS:
2 Wonderful Wednesdays:
Ken 'n Jim with 117 children and 45 adults .
Sandy Shrout Puppets; 91 children and 42 adults.
2 Games and Gab Sessions: 37 children and 2 adults.
1 Parenting Center with 4 adults.
1 Super Saturday III (Great Game Kickoff) 9 children, 4 adults.
ADULT PROGRAMS:
One Financial Planning session for Women--one lady attended.
COMPUTER USE:
Internet: 341 people used it for 268.5 hours.
Word Processing and etc: 191 people used it for 200 .5 hours.
LIBRARY MANAGER' S ACTIVITIES:
Attended 3 meetings of the Library Foundation and Gala Committee.
Went to the PLANT (Public Library Administrators of North Texas)
meeting in Farmers Branch.
Groupwise Training of all staff with City E-Mail.
All the Staff were guests at an Ice Cream Social.
Interviewed for a new Library Secretary.
Attended 2 retirement parties.
NTRLS Director ' s Meeting to prepare for the meeting on the 24th
of this month.
OTHER REPORTS:
The entire Staff has had the Sexual Harrasment Training Class.
Sheila Williams went to Austin for a Z39. 50 meeting on Automation
Standards.
Paula McLain is a mamber of the Reception Committee which planned
two Retirement parties.
Betty reminded us of the Open House and Book Sale on Sept. 12th
and 13th. She asked for volunteers for the book sale.
She asked people to turn in their reservations for the TLA,
District 7 meeting on Oct. 3rd in Colleyville at Heritage
High School.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS;
Betty Yarbrough sent a letter to Mr. Tom Cox along with the
Goals and Objectives for 1998 - 2003, and the Materials Selection
Policy.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
None

ADJOURNMENT:
Bernard Snitz moved the meeting be adjourned and Kerry McGeath
seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 7: 50 by Elizabeth
Schoonover.
