HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-02-05 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES February 5, 1998 GZ Chairperson Mike McGehee called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT VISITORS Mike McGehee Betty Yarbrough Elizabeth (Liz) Schoonover Sheila Williams Betty Fuller Bernard Snitz (Alternate) DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Mike GcGehee asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes. Bernard Snitz motioned that the minutes be accepted. Betty Fuller seconded, and the motion was carried. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR-January 1998 Betty Yarbrough reported January 1998 circulation information. New registrations: 485; 133 out of the city and 4 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 18,690. Total Holdings: 72,808. Reference questions answered: 1,026. Videocassettes circulated: 3,886. There were 40 requests for Interlibrary loans; 30 items were received. Genealogy sign-ins: Total 72 of which 34 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was 10,379 and in-house use of materials 5,515. Telephone Renewals: 119 calls. Total Volunteers for January were 26 with total hours contributed 91. Programs: Storytime Sessions were 19 with 232 children and 79 adults attending. Special Programs & Tours, Month of January: Specials: Parenting Center, Super Saturday III -Recycled Valentines -12 children; 2 adults. Battle of Books, Oakwood Terrace Tour: Brownies - 14 children; 6 adults. Outreach- 9 programs - 72 children; 28 adults - 21 hours (Midway Rec Preschool, Reading Circle- South Euless and Headstart) Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in January 1998: 1. Library Foundation Board Meeting. Gala planned for October 24, 1998. 2. North Hills Mall Book Sale Committee - Seven libraries will hold sale 2/28 & 3/1. 3. Gala Committee Meeting. 4. Art Committee Meeting-Foundation committees. 5. All -American City Award Committee. OTHER REPORTS: 1. Staff attended the Health Assessment Seminars. 2. Let's Talk About Books - Sheila Williams. 3. Meredith attended TLA TAYSHAS Meeting-Meredith was the only public librarian on the committee. 4. Sheila attended the TIF Grant Meeting in Austin -Received Grant for $49,977. 5. Meredith attended District 7 Executive Committee Meeting. 6. New Fines structure effective February 18, 1998. 7. Our new Adult Services Supervisor - Sandra McCurdy joined us on February 2, 1998. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: None.
