FILE EULESS LIBRARY BOARD COPY MINUTES December 4, 1997 Chairperson Wesley Scott called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7:10 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT VISITORS Wesley Scott Betty Yarbrough Kerry McGeath(' Sheila Williams Elizabeth Schoonover Betty Fuller Bernard Snitz (Alternate) DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Motion to accept the minutes as received was made by Betty Fuller and seconded by Kerry McGeath. Motion carried. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR-November 1997 Betty Yarbrough reported November 1997 circulation information. New registrations: 454; 99 out of the city and 1 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 17,595. Total Holdings: 72,071. Reference questions answered: 1,206. Videocassettes circulated: 2,958. There were 242 requests for Interlibrary loans; 242 items were received. Genealogy sign-ins: Total 60 of which 27 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was 9,636 and in-house use of materials 6,625. Total Volunteers for October were 30 with total hours contributed 86.5. Programs: Storytime Sessions were 19 with 253 children and 87 adults attending. Special Programs & Tours, Month of November: Tours: Rainbow School - 30 children; 9 adults. Specials: Grand Pair of Readers registration- 18 children; 12 adults. Super Saturday III - Origami - 14 children; 15 adults. Outreach-Reading Circle - 15 readers; 15.5 hours. Headstart - 6 sessions - 92 children; 14 adults. Special Program: Parenting Center Program Super Saturday III Roping Demo - 26 children; 19 adults Halloween Puppet Shows (2) 144 children; 63 adults . Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in November 1997: 1. Let's Talk About Books. 2. AMIGOS Conference with Sheila Williams. 3. Attended Reading Seminar/Author Workshop at TWU with Meredith McMannis and Jeanne Green. 4. Attended Library Foundation Executive Board&Membership meeting& luncheon. 5. Attended Parade Committee meeting. 6. Hosted Super Saturday III- Origami program. 7. Attended Boards & Commission dinner. OTHER REPORTS: 1. Mrs. McCormick put in display of Mr. McCormick's things. 2. City Workshop on Interview Techniques -Betty Yarbrough, Sheila Williams, Sue Morrow, Paula McLanin, Carolyn Hoots and Meredith McMannis. 3. Library sponsored program on hospice. 4. TIF Workshop - Sheila Williams. 5. Employee of the Month Committee - Sheila Williams. 6. Technology Committee -NTRLS - Sheila Williams. 7. Mid-Cities Youth Librarians' meeting-NRH -Meredith McMannis &Elizabeth Draper. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Betty Yarbrough wrote a letter of appreciation to Edward J. Denari for his book, COFFEE TOWER which he presented to the library at the November meeting. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: On Monday evening,January 12th at 7 :00 p.m. there will be a Beginners Genealogy class held in the library. Everyone interested is invited. February 16, also a Monday, at 7:00 p.m. an Intermediate Genealogy class will be held in the library. It is open to the public. Due to popular demand, library materials may be renewed over the phone. Callers need to have their library card when calling 685-1481. Betty distributed copies of the library's annual report to the Texas State Library. Charges for the meeting room in the library have been reduced by the City Council, making it more available to the public. The January Library Board meeting will be held January 8th, at 7:00 p.m. due to the first Thursday being a holiday. Elections will be held. Alice Ernest has resigned from the Library Board, effective December 1, 1997. The Ernests have moved to Pecan Plantation. December 11 Betty Yarbrough will have been with the Euless Library for 19 years. CITIZEN INPUT: None There being no further business, motion was made by Betty Fuller, and seconded by Bernard Snitz to adjourn.
