HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-04-03 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES April3, 1997 Secretary Elizabeth Schoonover called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7:15 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT VISITORS Elizabeth Schoonover Betty Yarbrough Betty Fuller Sheila Williams Kerry McGeath Mike McGehee Maxine Wallis (Alternate) Bernard Snitz (Alternate) DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: Minutes from the March meeting were received and approved as written. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR Mrs. Yarbrough reported March 1997 circulation information. New registrations: 768; 186 out of the city and 2 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 13,188. Total Holdings: 62,664. Reference questions answered: 145. Videocassettes circulated: 3,599. There were 33 requests for Interlibrary loans; 34 items were received. Genealogy sign-ins: Total 74 of which 22 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was 11,407 and in-house use of materials 4,931, including magazines; 449; microfiche; 168. Total Volunteers for March were 13 with total hours contributed 83.25. Programs: Storytime Sessions were 20 with 278 children and 57 adults attending. Special Programs & Tours: Storyteller Chuck Larkin from Atlanta, Ga.: 4 Trinity High School Classes and 9 1st and 2nd graders from Midway Park. Bear contest: 55 children, 4 adults. Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in March 1997: 1. Tour for Keller Library Board & Councilman. 2. Let's Talk about Books. 3. Visited Sculptor in Austin. 4. Foundation Board of Directors Meeting& Gala Committee. 5. Plant Meeting -Terrell Public Library. (2) 6. Hosted an NTRLS Committee. 7. Arbor Daze Committee. 8. Mall Book Sale Committee. OTHER REPORTS: 1. Hurst Council has authorized Euless residents to use their facility without a fee. 2. The City's Vision Statement and Mission Statement were distributed. 3. ESL Classes have variety of nationalities - 12 countries represented. 4. Area Circulation Librarians met here, hosted by Sue Morrow. 5. Sheila attended NTRLS Automation Committee in White Settlement. 6. Employee Chili Luncheon-Paula Myers on the Committee. 7. Meredith McMannis hosted the Kid Share Meeting& School Librarians' get together. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Mike McGehee gave a report on the Foundation's Fund Raising endeavors. Still needed is $17,000 to finish paying for the statue which is due to arrive in June. He gave some new ideas on how to finish raising the money. There is a donation box (located near the display boxes) in the library for the com- munity to have the opportunity to contribute to the statue. The Foundation is planning a Gala in October. No place has been decided on at this time. There is a committee working on it. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Sheila Williams gave a report on the telephone book-renewal plan. The Library plans to provide this service to patrons in the future. Bernard Snitz attended the March 13th City Council meeting and gave us an excellent thorough report of what City Council is accomplishing. Mike McGehee asked for volunteers to attend the April and May City Council meetings.
