MINUTES
March 6, 1997
Chairperson Wesley Scott called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7:12 p.m.

DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
Minutes from previous meeting were received and approved as written.
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Mrs. Yarbrough reported February 1997 circulation information. New registrations:
953; 241 out of the city and 4 out of the county. Active Library Cards: 12,420. Total
Holdings: 61,471. Reference questions answered: 1,771. Videocassettes circulated:
3,150. There were 20 requests for Interlibrary loans; 20 items were received.
Genealogy sign-ins: Total 61 of which 35 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was
11,620 and in-house use of materials 5,431. Total Volunteers for February were 23 with
total hours contributed 91.25.
Programs: Storytime Sessions were 27 with 463 children and 136 adults attending.
Special Programs & Tours, Month of February:
1st Methodist Pre-School, South Euless Boy Scout Troop, Covenant Christian Academy
Kindergarten, Metroplex Chapel Pre-School (9 programs/tours) had 228 children and
73 adults attend. Cancelled: 4 Daycare Storytimes cancelled, rain; 1 tour cancelled
(home school), 3 Daycares -no show/no call.
Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in February 1997:
1. NTRLS East Regional with Alice Ernest and Sheila Williams.
2. Let's Talk about Books.

3. Historical marker dedication.
4. TLA Legislative Day -Alice and Marland Ernest, Meredith McMannis.
5. PLANT meeting -Watauga Public Library.
6. NTRLS Committee meeting in Decatur.
7. Friends Book Sale at North Hills Mall-with Vickie &Wes Scott and other volunteers.
8. Arbor Daze Committee with Sheila Williams and Meredith McMannis.
OTHER REPORTS:
1. Picture in School Library Journal.
2. Letter from Mayor Barr, Ft. Worth and Dr. Ron Caloss, ISD.
3. Letters regarding books won by Representative Todd Smith.
4. Letter from Judge Vandergriff.
5. Sheila-NTRLS Automation Committee.
6. Sherry Moeller and Carolyn Hoots hosted Techies meeting.
7. Meredith McMannis received Employee of Month at Council meeting on Feb. 25.
8. Meredith hosted Texas State Library workshop. Elizabeth Draper and Scott
Thomson attended.
NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS:
TLA Conference will be April 8 - 12, 1997 in Ft. Worth. Pre-registration is due
March 14.
Board member Alice Ernest and her husband Marland Ernest attended TLA Legislative
Day in Austin. Alice reported that she felt that legislators were receptive to the libraries
needs and that the information they were given was well presented.
Betty announced that State Representative Todd Smith won a drawing at a TLA reception
from the Texas Reading Club. Mr. Smith donated the 10 children's books he won, to our
library. A donor plaque will be placed in each book.
The library has also received a flag which was flown over the Texas State Capital. It
had been presented to our Mayor from former State Representative Carolyn Park.
The Friends of the Library joined with 6 other local libraries at North Hills Mall on
February 22 & 23 for a joint book sale of materials which had been donated. The profit
was $1,073.00.
Mike McGehee reported that the Library foundation is working to host a fall gala at the
new golf course. Membership to the foundation is open. Cookbooks are still available,
and will be at Arbor Daze, for $10.00.

Arbor Daze flyers are available for members to help distribute.
Betty will view the bronze statue under construction on March 8th in Austin. Completion
is due in June.
March is Bear Month at the library. Anyone who brings in a bear can have his/her
picture taken with the bear and have it put on display. Walmart donated ($50.00) for
film and the Friends of the Library also provided funding for this project.
CITIZEN INPUT:
Ft. Worth Mayor, R. Burr sent a thank you note to the library for waiving the fee usually
charged to HEB Indepent School District students who reside outside of Euless.
Linda Honaker, Director of HEB I.S.D. libraries, and Dr. Ron Caloss, HEB I.S.D. Super-
indent also sent notes commending the library for allowing HEB I.S.D. students who live
within Ft. Worth city limits to use the library at no charge.
Judge Tom Vandergriff, who attended the Euless historical marker dedication and
visited the library for the first time, sent a congratulatory note to the library.
There being no further business, Chairperson Wesley Scott adjourned the meeting
at 8:10 p.m.
