HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-06-06 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES JUNE 6, 1996 Chairperson Wesley Scott called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7:05 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT Alice Ernest Betty Yarbrough Betty Fuller Sheila Williams Kerry McGeath Mike McGehee Wesley Scott Russell Schoonover No minutes were available for the May 2, 1996, meeting. Miscellaneous May circulation significantly increased over April circulation. The move from the old library to the new library is on schedule. The only delay has been the conversion of the old records, into current MARK records, so that current bar code identification can be created for all the library inventory. Library Board members moved to the new facility where we were joined by Willie Mae McCormick, former Euless City Council member, City of Euless Mayor pro-tern and long time supporter and patron of the Euless Library. Betty Yarbrough led the group on a tour of the magnificent, new facility. Mrs. McCormick shared her memories of the Euless Library beginnings and development. As the tour concluded, Mrs. McCormick expressed her desire to give a generous donation, to fund meaningful art work, that will enhance the interior as a continuing memory to her late husband.. They both have always placed a high value on the Library as a community beacon, drawing the people to read and learn. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR Mrs. Yarbrough reported May 1996 circulation information, registrations 231, 43 out of the city and 1 out of the county. There were no requests for Interlibrary loans but 7 items were received. Visits to the Genealogy Room were 72 of whom 54 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was 3,011 and in-house use of materials 2,857. Children's Services Storytime Sessions were 23, with 407 children and 55 adults attending. Special Programs & Tours, 2 tours Midway Kindergarten, with 90 children and 6 adults. There were 2 special sessions, Midway Madness with 46 children and 8 adults. Meredith McMannis and Paula Meyers registered 46 people for library cards at Bear Creek Kindergarten Roundup. School visits: 146 classes, 24 hours at 5 schools. Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in May 1996: 1. Let's talk about books. 2. Pre-council-Meeting Room Policy. 3. Numerous meetings and walk-throughs of new building (architect, contractor and Site Superintendent, moving company, furniture and shelving companies). OTHER REPORTS 1. School registration: July 31, Wednesday 1-7 (2 shifts). Aug. 1, Thursday 10-2 The July 1996 meeting is canceled as that date is the 4th of July holiday.
