HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-02-01 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES February 01 , 1996 Chair Person Wesley Scott called the Euless Library Board meeting to order, at 7: 05 p.m. Members Present: Staff Present: Alice Ernest Betty Yarbrough Betty Fuller Sheila Williams Terry McGeath Mike McGhee Russell Schoonover Wesley Scott Lawrence Lubrano, alt( 1996) DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Minutes of the December 07, 1995 meeting, unavailable at the January 04 , 1996 meeting, were received and approved, as written. Minutes of the January 04, 1996 meeting were received, and corrected, REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR line two, reegistrations, correct to registrations, item 4 . , kits corrected to bids opened; and approved as corrected. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR Mrs . Yarbrough reported January 1996 circulation information, registrations 321 , 34 out of the city and 2 out of the county. 45 Interlibrary loan requests were made and 15 items received. Visits to Genealogy Room were 75 of whom 45 were Euless residents. Walk-in traffic was 3, 953 and In-house use of materials 2, 824 . 10 volunteers contributed 75 . 25 hours. Childrens Services Storytime Sessions were 14, with 162 children and 29 adults attending. Special Programs & Tours, 3 tours, 1 Homeschool, Midway Park 4th grade PEAK class , Wilshire PEAK class, for a total of 41 children and 7 adults. Special Outreach Oakwood Terrace Elementary and Storytime at Mission Point Apts. 25 children and 8 adults attended. Battle of The Books official was at Oakwood Terrace, North Euless and Lakewood elementary schools. Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings in January 1996: 1 . Let ' s talk about books . 2 . Euless City Council for approval of automatic contract negotiations. 3 . PLANT at Cedar Hill. 4 . Arbor Daze committee. 5. Library Foundation Fundraising, Art, Executive and Membership Committee meetings. 6. Saturday, Barnes & Noble National Book Week with Joan McCord and Patricia Beaver. 7. Branch dedication in Denton. Other Reports: 1 . Select Library Board representative as Foundation Director. 2. Mary Wilber spoke at Pan-American Women' s Club. 3. Fred Kamman and Meredith McMannis-TCJC Law Library. 4 . Sheila Williams attended Internet Workshop. 5. Fred and Sheila attended GENTECH (genealogy) workshop in Dallas. 6. Party for Barbara Thompson' s retirement. 7. Friends of the Library Book sale at North Hills Mall, Sat- urday and Sunday, February 17 & 18, 1996. 8. Reference library person Mary Wilber is leaving. Fred Kamman is moving into that position. 9. Two new library positions have been approved, for March 1996. Positions are to be filled, trained and ready when the new facility becomes operational. 10 . Reference January minutes on automation proposals, Sheila attended Gaylord Automation Systems presentation at NE Mall. 11 . Present library inventory is being culled of old and not used books. New acquisitions are being delayed until the automation system is in place, because of a .30 to . 50 cent cost per book, to place data identification, on each book. NEW LIBRARY REPORT No Construction Committee meeting was scheduled. NEW BUSINESS Mike McGhee was elected Euless Library Board representative on the Library Foundation Arts Board.
