HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-01-04 REcEJv FEB 0 MINUTES3 CITY OE RUA EULESS LIBRARY BOARD January 04, 1996 Chair Person Wesley Scott, called the Euless Library Board meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Members Present: Staff Present: Alice Ernest Betty Yarbrough Betty Fuller Sheila Willams Russell Schoonover Wesley Scott Jack Weiss, alternate DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Minutes of the December 07 , 1995 meeting were not available. REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR Mrs. Yarbrough reported the December 1995 circulation information including 194 reegistrations, 27 out of city, and 1 out of county 29 Interlibrary loan requests were made ( 34 books received) . 1 ,850 Videocassettes were checked out and 62 reserves checked out, 3, 233 usages by walk in traffic, and 2, 609 in house use of materials. There were 64 visits to Genealogy Room, 34 by Euless residents . 14 Volunteers contributed 47. 5 hours. Cir- culation was down 6% from the same period last year. 10 Story- time sessions were attended by 86 children and 15 adults. 4 Special program Puppet shows and film programs were attended by 112 children and 37 adults. Grandpair of Readers-35 pairs, 70 people earned certificates. Mrs Yarbrough attended the following meetings in December: 1 . Southwestern Bell Seminar on HB 2128, Public Utilities Regulatory Act. 2. Foundation Arts Committee. 3 . Lets Talk about Books. 4. Building report: site visit and furniture kits opened. Misc. 1 . National Book Week, Barness & Noble, NE Mall, January 20, 1996, 1 :00-6: 00 pm. We will have a table for Library card sign- up, and give out information and handouts . 2. Sheila is working with Danny McLain on responses to automation proposals. 3. All supervisory staff attended a mandatory orientation on recognizing drug and alcohol abuse. 4. All staff attended the Employees Christmas Luncheon. 5. Bear Creek Elementary choir came caroling. 6. Hurst Library has agreed to stop charging Euless residents a user fee, probably effective sometime in January 1996. 7 . Library Foundation Arts is looking at talent and art posibilities. NEW LIBRARY PROGRESS REPORT Mrs. Yarbrough and staff, did a walk through, making a final check and identifying any construction changes necessary. Everyone was pleased with the progress of construction and the exemplary cooperation of the architect. There was discussion of the complexity of making the right choices of equipment to be compatible with all the data links, tie-in' s, info highways, etc. , yet, be affordable, reliable, expandable and effectively serve library needs for the next 20 years. Staff was making every effort to get it right the first time. NEW BUSINESS Election of 1996 officers. Motion made, seconded and passed that according to current Library Board bylaws, 4 boardmembers present, alternate #2 Jack Weiss, being present , be allowed to participate in the nomination and election of 1996 Euless Library Board officers.
