PROGRESS REPORT FOR NEW LIBRARY
Wesley Scott and the Building Committee visited the site, and said it was very impressive from a
recent walkthrough. Contractors seem to be working very hard, and are apparently moving quickly.
Wesley said that there was a possibility that it could be finished in May,and the month of June to
move in,with late July as a soft opening. November 11 will be the Grand Opening for the Library-
giving all systems a chance to operate before the big opening.
NEW BUSINESS
The Annual Report of the Texas State Library was reviewed. It was noted that we had less books
this year,as a result of extensive weeding in order to prepare us for our move into the new Library.
The Staff is being strained with the pressures of things that have to happen prior to being able to
move into the new Library-time is becoming of the essence. The Euless Library Foundation needs
recipes for the Fundraising cookbook. A flier about Library Board Members in general was
distributed. We arc going to elect the new 1996 officers at our January meeting.
MISC BUSINESS
The Board was asked by a patron a"request for consideration"for a Juvenile book that had
reproduction as its theme. The book was titled "Where do Babies Come From",and was filled with
rather accurate depictions of the Reproductive process. The book originally came out in 1972,with
the edition in question coming out in 1983 (Knopf). The title had been checked out 102 times in its
life at the Euless Public Library. The Patron had complained that the book had"Pornographic
images, and that it was improperly placed in the Library. The motion to keep the book was made by
Betty Fuller, with the rationale that Parents should be responsible for screening books that their
children may read or pick up. The Board unanimously voted to keel)the book, stating that the book
was well within the standards of our entire community.
There being no further business, the Chairperson,Wesley Scott adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
