Members Present: Staff Present: Patricia Beaver, alt. Betty Yarbrough Kerry McGeath, alt. Sheila Williams Russell Schoonover Wesley Scott Joyce Yamamoto DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Due to the absence of Kerry McGeath, the Secretary, at the last meeting, the production of the minutes was delayed and will be made available as they are completed. REPORT OF THE LIBRARIAN Mrs. Yarbrough reported the August 1995 circulation information, including 572 registrations, 75 out of the city, and 3 out of county. 26 Interlibrary loan requests (of which 63 books were received), 2,202 Videocassettes checked out, 70 reserves checked out, 3,891 usages by walk in traffic, and 3,129 in house use of materials. There were 97 visits to the Genealogy room, 44 of which were Euless residents. 35 volunteers contributed 140 hours to the cause. 282 children and 42 adults attended 20 Storytime sessions. Circulation was down 2.3% from 1994. There were 4 tours for all four first grade classes of Midway Park elementary including 66 children and 9 adults. There were also 2 puppet shows and 1 Midway Madness with 71 children and 13 adults. the Summer Reading Program had 696 registered participants, of which 314 earned certificates - there were 14,404 hours read. Mrs.Yarbrough reported attending the following meetings in August: 1. The Library Foundation Fundraising Committee. 2. The Library Foundation Art Committee. 3. The Library Foundation Executive' g Committee. 4. Public Library Administrators of North Texas (PLANT) conference. 5. Dedication of Library at Edwards Cancer Center,Harris HEB. Miscellaneous 1. Library Card sign-up at Elementary Schools, garnered 330 registrations. 2. Wesley Scott attended a workshop on "Speaking for Success" 3. Staff met with Architect to view the Color Board and look at colors & arrangements. 4. Sheila attended a Risk Management workshop, put on by the Texas Municipal League. Childrei\s 1. 12 library card registrations at Oakwood Terrace Open House. 2. Meredith met with Trinity HS National Honor Society Committee Chairperson about Reading Circle outreach at South Euless. NEW AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Leis Talk About Books, on Tuesday September 12 at 1:30pm. George Green Professor of History, UT Arlington,will discuss his book"Hurst-Euless-Bedford: Heart of the Metroplex". The Library Foundation meets on Monday September 11. The goal of the Foundation is to raise money and buy art for the new Library. The Friends of the Library has their annual meeting on October 16th. Presidents day weekend (Feb. 16-19, 1996) Northeast Tarrant County Libraries Friends organizations will have a sale of old books at North Hills Mall- more details to come. Betty Yarbrough,Wesley Scott, and Kerry McGeath are going to meet September 21st at 5:00pm to begin the task of revising or creating the Library's Goals and Objectives. NEW LIBRARY They are currently pouring the slab for the Library's foundation - one can now see the length of the main building- most exciting. Building Committee meeting is coming up, and at that point they will review furniture to be purchased. The Q __ Contractor should be completed by t f May. No automation system has been chosen yet- a lot hinges on the choice of systems, and it is slow going making sure we get a system that does all we want(within the requirements of the RFP), including the possibility of a "self-checkout" system.'
