MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT Sheila Williams Alice Ernest Betty Yarbrough Linda Garner Rick Herold Charlie Garrison Willie Mae McCormick GUEST Wesley Scott Elaine Turner-President of Joyce Yamomoto Friends of the Euless Library DISPOSITION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the February 4,1993 Euless Library Board meeting were approved as written. REPORT OF LIBRARL'\N Mrs. Yarbrough reported the February 1993 circulation information. See the attached documents for exact figures. In summary, circulation was down 10% overall. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that this year the reading contest uses the number of reading hours, and last year the contest used the number of books. She reported that while fewer books are been checked out, the ones being checked out are of a higher literary quality. In a change in operational policy, videos may be returned in the book drop, a new service to library patrons. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that she attended the following meetings: Let's Talk About Books Battle of the Books - Judge at Lakewood Elem. LOTC Meeting TLA Legislative Day LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES, MARCH 4, 1993 - PAGE 2 DISCUSSION OF THE NEW LIBRARY Mr. Rick Herold updated the Board on current activities. Six consultants are being evaluated for possible use in all phases of the new library. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in need's analysis, architecture, and construction of new libraries. A decision is expected by early April. Betty Yarbrough reported the suggestions received from the Patron's Suggestion Box were more reading areas and more books. DISCUSSION OF BY-LAWS Alice Ernest requested the Board to review the current By-Laws and the sample By-Laws. After general discussions , the Board agreed to delay action on the By-Laws until next meeting. Everyone agreed to read and be ready to make recommendation to revise or amend the By Laws at the next meeting. Chairman Alice Ernest also recommended a review of our goals and objectives. GTERAL DISCUSSION Elaine Turner reported that the Friends of the Library have received some excellent material to sell resulting in enough money to buy a printer for the Euless Library. On April 14 & 15, the Library will host a special event, Night of a 1,000 Stars . Mr. Herold informed the Board about the Arbor Day plans, on April 23 & 24. There being no further discussion, Chairman Alice Ernest adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p. m. Euless Libr. s sard Secretary Wes Scott
