HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-10-04 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees October 4, 1990 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Kaye Munden at 7:05 P.M. Members Present: Staff Present: Kaye Munden Betty Yarbrough Willie Mae McCormick Randy Gibson Betty Fuller LIBRARIAN'S REPORT. AUGUST Betty Yarbrough reported that the total August circulation was 14,331 up 2%from the previous year. New registration totaled 339; 256 adult and 83 juvenile. Of these 36 were out of city and 1 out of county. Eighty- nine interlibrary loan requests were processed and 86 books were received. There were 83 visits to the genealogy room. Video cassette checkouts totaled 2,091. Walk-in traffic totaled 4,878. Eleven volunteers contributed 128 1/4 hours of service. Five hundred fifty-three children and 55 adults attended 23 storytime sessions conducted by Meredith McMannis. Of the six hundred eighty-eight students enrolled in the summer reading program 203 completed the program by reading 15 or more hours of reading each, a total of 6,242 hours read. Meetings attended included: • Public Libraries of North Texas (PLANT) meeting - Paul Geisel, nephew of Dr. Zeuss was guest speaker • Texas Municipal League (TML) regional meeting • TCLIS regional meeting A second round of interviews has been scheduled for candidates for the position of Assistant Library Director. Meredith McMannis will coordinate the Euless Library's participation in the "Battle of the Brains"Library Quiz Bowl (between) local high school students and local celebrities - to be held Saturday, October 20 at the North Richland Hills Library. SEPTEMBER Total circulation for September was 15,361, up 39% from September, 1989. There were 373 new registrations, 266 adult and 107 student. Of these 30 were from out of city and 2 from out of the county. Interlibrary loan requests totaled 68 with 30 books received. There were 81 visits to the genealogy room and walk-in traffic totaled 4,164. Video cassette check-outs totaled 1,633. Thirteen volunteers contributed 144.25 hours of service. One hundred ninety children and 27 adults attended 13 storytime sessions. Twenty-six children and 6 adults representing the Webelos and the 2nd grade from Covenant Christian School made 2 tours of the library. Meetings attended: • Strategic Planning Committee • TCLIS Regional Meetigns in Wichita Falls and Weatherford (Council member Mary Lib Salek and Board member Betty Fuller attended the Weatherford meeting The Euless K-Mart store donated its facilities for librarians to register children and adults for new library cards. Sixty-two residents registered for cards. September is the end of the fiscal year. Current library holdings include: 49,705 books and 4,116 non- book items; a total of 53,821 items an increase of 1,685 over the 1988-89 total. Total circulation for 1989- 90 was 151,355; 88,146 adult and 63,209 juvenile down 4.5%from the total of 158,510 for 1988-89. The year's of registration were 2,644 adult and 835 juvenile a total of 3,479. Betty Yarbrough reported that interviews continue for Assistant Library Director. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
