HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-08-02 Document:Library Minutes 08/02/90 REGULAR DEETING EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES August 2, 1990 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Kaye Munden at 7:05 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT Kaye Munden Betty Yarbrough Willie Mae McCormick Bill Kirkley ' Betty Fuller The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. LIBR/IRIAN'S REPORT: JUNE Betty Yarbrough reported that the total JUNE circulation was 16,110 down 12.9% from the previous year. The decreased circulation was attributed to the reduction in hours of operation. New registrations totaled 404 ;254 adult and 150 juvenile. Of these, 33 were out of city. Ninety- three interlibrary loan requests were processed and 7 books were received. There were 80 visits to the genealogy room. Vitieocassete checkouts totaled 1 ,829. Twelve volunteers, including youth assisting with the summer reading program, contributed 144 hours of service. Seven hundred thirty-five children and 64 adults attended 26 storytime sessions, Meetings attended included: Let's Talk About Books, TMLDA Executive Committee and a meeting of Betty Yarbrough and two Library Board representatives with Tom Hart regarding the possibility of including library expansion on the next bond issue to be submitted to the public, The ad-hoc committee members were informed that the city may postpone submitting bond issues until 1992. Betty Yarbrough announced the resignation of Sharon Wilson, who is leaving to be married. Mrs. Yarbrough also announced that the budget for 1990-91 will remain at the same level as last year. JULY Total circulation for July was 16,120 , again down 9% from the previous year. There were 321 new registrations; 233 adult and 88 juvenile; 32 out of city and 1 out of county. The library processed 80 interlibrary loan requests and 91 books were received in response to these and previous requests. Videocassette checkouts totaled 1993. The unofficial walk-in count totaled 5,143. Nine volunteers, including youth who assisted with the summer reading program, contributed 92 hours of service. Six hundred sixty-five children and 71 adults attended 26 storytime sessions. Under the direction of Meredith Mc Mannis, 250 children and 50 adults attended the North Texas Library System Magic Reading Show sponsored by the library. Forty-six students and 8 adults from the HEB ESL Summer Program and the Sheppard Drive Drive Day Care Center toured the library. Betty Yarbrough attended the City of Euless Managers and Directors luncheon and presented a library facility report. Two Board members represented the Board at the farwell reception for Sharon Wilson. Mrs. Yarbrough will interview the 3 finalists for the position of Assistant Library Director on August 9. Mrs. Yarbrough also attended the Texas Library Association Annual Assembly in Austin. Nomination forms for attendance at the TCLIS regional and state conferences In September, October and January were distributed. Mrs, Yarbrough asked If a Board representative would like to attend one or more of the TCLIS meetings, Forms were distributed to any who thought they might attend. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
