LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Betty Yarbrough reviewed the January circulation reports and compared the totals with totals of the previous three months. January's total circulation was 12,738. The total was 967 less than one year ago; however, new registrations totaled 318. This represented an increase of 144 over the previous month. The computer malfunction was corrrected; therefore, the totals accurately reflected the number of books checked out. January statistics included 60 out-of-city registrations, 90 visits to the genealogy room, 1853 video cassettes checked out, and 17 storytime sessions. Three hundred two children and 36 adults attended storytime sessions. There were five student field trips to the library. These included PEAK G\T classes from North Euless, South Euless, and Oakwood Terrace, a First Baptist Church pre-school class, and members of a Brownie troop who earned merit badges as a result of their guided tour. Six volunteers contributed 55 1/2 hours of service during the month of January. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that G. Clifton Wester would be guest author at the February 6, "Lets Talk About Books" 1:30 P.M. session. The Euless Library hosted the visit of Ann Loggins, North Texas Library System consultant. Mrs. Yarbrough also discussed an annual event sponsored by the City of Euless and the Mid-Cities Daily News, the Euless Lawn and Garden Show Leisure Faire 1990, which will be held Saturday, March 31. Dale Groom and David Wade will be featured guests. Mrs. Yarbrough has been designated chairperson of the Arts and Crafts Division. She reported that she attended the retirement tea for Thelma Phillips, long-time Arlington librarian and TCLIS in Austin where plans for the White House Conference are being finalized. A letter was sent to the patron who requested a decision regarding a request to withdraw from circulation the juvenile book entitled,Witches. The letter conveyed the board's decision not to withdraw the book. NEW BUSINESS With the help of library staff members, Mrs Yarbrough and Mrs. Wilson documented the effect of recent cutbacks in personnel and hours of operation. The results of the documentation were presented to appropriate City of Euless staffers. As a result, permission was received to hire one additional 20 hour per week staff member and one part-time summer temporary staffer. Mrs. Yarbrough announced that registration fees would be paid for any board members who wished to attend the Board Members' session of the Texas Library Association Conference to be held in April.
