HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-01-04 1 i REGULAR METING EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES January 4, 1990 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Kaye Munden at 7:05 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT Betty Fuller Betty Yarbrough Randy Gibson Sharon Wilson Bill Kirkley-- Willie Mae McCormick Kaye Munden The minutes from the previous meeting were approved. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Betty Yarbrough reviewed circulation reports for the months of October, November, and December. The total circulation in October was 11 ,597, in November 10,830, and in December 7,977. Mrs. Yarbrough stated that computer records reflected 8,000+ at one point during the month of December; consequently the 7,977 total was inaccurate. Since there is a question regarding a glitch in the computer, library personnel are now recording daily totals as a precautionary measure and to provide a means of obtaining totals to compare with monthly computer printouts. Ten storytime sessions, four puppet shows and one Little Tyke program were conducted. Six volunteers contributed 60.5 hours of library service. Mrs. Yarbrough reported attending several meetings including TCLIS in Austin and a preliminary City of Euless Strategic Planning orientation meeting conducted by Ronnie Banner, HEB ISD. She circulated press releases highlighting the Euless City Council's selection of Anita Head as Euless Volunteer of the Year. Mrs. Head's hours of volunteer service were devoted to acting as an aide in the library. Mrs. Yarbrough also reported that she had been appointed as one of 18 representatives to the state White House Library Conference Committee The state conference will precede the 1991 national White House Library Conference. The annual report signed by chairman, Kaye Munden, will be submitted to the City of Euless. The library will close for renovations, March 19, the week of the school district's spring break. During this time, new carpeting and shelving will be installed. Furniture will be reupholstered and the adult education department will be moved into the Fuller Room. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that National Library Week is scheduled to be held the last week of April. As part of the national event, the Euless Library will host,on April 25, a public storytime session, "A Night of a Thousand Stars", in which community members and celebrities will read aloud to those attending the event. Library Board members received personalized ballpoint pens from the city. NEW BUSINESS Betty Yarbrough distributed a formal complaint submitted by a patron. Board members read the complaint, reviewed the children's book and unanimously recommended that the book remain a part of the children's collection. Mrs. Yarbrough will inform the patron of the board's decision. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M. Document:Library Minutes 01/04/90 Betty Fuller
