HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-09-08 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees September 8, 1983 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:10pm. by Chairman Sonja Adams in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Members Absent Rod Ashford David Sallee, Excused Chuck Canton Bill Foreman, Unexcused Sue Eichelberger Brenda Ashford Visitor Staff Present Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro-Tem Betty Yarbrough, Librarian APPROVAL OF MINUTES The Minutes of the meeting of July 7, 1983 were not available. Those minutes will be submitted for approval at the next regular meeting of the Board. No meeting was held in August for lack of a quorum. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT A. Children's Services Story time sessions 17 18 Children Attending 339 383 Adults Attending 37 36 In July there were six puppet shows with 193 children and 31 adults attending. In August there were three film programs with 129 children and 15 adults attending. D. Volunteers In July 9 volunteers contributed 135 hours - in August 2 volunteers contributed 482 hours. E. Reports and Meetings In July Betty Yarbrough and Sally Cook, the Reference Librarians, -- attended a workshop on Output Measures. Additionally, the Librarian met with the local Mid-Cities Public Relations Committee, she attended meetings of the Friends of the Library, the North Texas Library System Automation Committee, the District 7 Executive Committee, and she attended the Texas Library Association Annual Assembly in Houston. In August Mrs. Yarbrough attended meetings of the American Library Association Local Arrangements Committee, the United Way Volunteer Center Advisory Council , the North Texas Library System Automation Committee and the District 7 Executive Committee. COMMITTEE REPORTS Brenda Ashford reported that the Friends of the Library made $934.60 at the Book Sale held at North Hills Mall in August. She has expressed her gratitude to the Board Members and the Staff who put in a lot of hard work, along with the Friends, to make the book sale a success. The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be October 4, 1983 at the Library. COMMUNICATIONS The Chairman circulated the Hurst Library Board Minutes and a newspaper article about Euless Library services. Euless Public Library of Trustees - Regular Meeting September 8, 1983 - Page Three UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Board continues to be concerned about the leak in the Library Book Drop because of water damage to library books. Relating to the Board's discussions about future expansion of Library facilities, the Librarian reported on her visit with Assistant City Manager Tom Hart to the Denton Public Library, where a very attractive addition has been made to that building. NEW BUSINESS The Chairman notified the Board that if a quorum is not available for a Library Board meeting on the scheduled date, i .e. , the first Thursday of the month, the meeting would be held on the following Thursday, the second Thursday of the month. The Board members were advised that Sec. 9, Article IV of the By-Laws specifying that any Board member who misses three consecutive meetings without good causes shall be deemed to have resigned will be strictly enforced. The Board members were emcouraged to attend all meetings and to notify the Chairman or the Librarian as soon as they were aware of a situation that would prevent their attendance at a Board meeting. The Librarian reported that three smoke detectors had been received in August and were available for check-out for a three-week circulation period. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.
