HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-06-09 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees June 9, 1983 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7 :05pm by Chairman Sonja Adams in the Fuller Room of the Library. No meeting was held in April or May for lack of quorum. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT A. Children's Services MARCH APRIL MAY Story time Sessions 10 12 23 Children Attending 222 249 590 Adults Attending 19 37 58 Four puppet shows were held in March with 140 children and 47 adults attending. Two tours were conducted in March for 18 children and 3 adults. Two tours were conducted in April and one special program was presented for a total of 89 children and 15 adults. In May the Children's Librarian visited 118 classes in six local elementary schools to promote the summer reading program. Also in May 10 tours were conducted and two special programs were presented for 340 children and 22 adults. Twelve classes came to the library with their teachers. D. Reports and Meetings In March the Librarian attended an Automation Committee meeting, a PLANT meeting in Hurst on microcomputers, a workshop on library services to the aging at the Arlington Public Library, a TRLA meeting at the North Richaland Hills Library on Stress Reduction and an Advisory Council meeting at the N. E. Volunteer Center. Additionally, she met three times with Hurst, Bedford and North Richald Hills librarians to discuss joint newspaper publicity. In April Mrs. Yarbrough attended the Texas Library Association Conference, a PLANT meeting in Garland on personnel problems, a Publicity Committee meeting in Bedford and an American Association of University Women meeting where she received a book on area child care facilities for the library. In May Mrs. Yarbrough attended a NTLS Automation Committee meeting dealing with system-wide automation services, a TRLA meeting, a meeting of the Friends of the Library, and a training session for color computers. She also attended G.E.D. graduation where 32 students graduated. There are currently 350 students enrolled in the program, and 12 students working on English as a second language. COMMITTEE REPORTS The Board Chairman and Bill Foreman will provide Mr. Sustaire with information relative to the needs of the library in the area of expanded facilities to keep up with the growing needs of our community. COMMUNICATIONS The Chairman circulated the minutes of the Hurst Library Board and the summer information program listing all the summer activites in the City, including Library activities and services. The Library is specifically conducting Children's Sign Language classes this summer. Euless Public Library of Trustees - Regular Meeting June 9, 1983 - Page Three NEW BUSINESS The Board is very concerned about the book drop which is leaking and has resulted in water damage to some books. The City has been notified. The Library is to receive four Polaroid Sun Cameras which will be available for patron check-out. The Friends of the Library have purchased a rewind machine for the videocassette tapes, Pamplet binders for periodicals in the Genealogy room and a media cart for the opaque projector. The Friends also paid to have a base and casters put on the puppet theater. The Friends have a book sale scheduled August 19, 20, 21st at North Hills Mall in conjunction with the Trinity Arts Heritage Festival. The Library is the recipient of the painting awarded first place at the Fifth Annual Trinity Valley Art Exhibition. The painting was purchased by Bank of North Texas and presented to the Library. Five TRS 80 color computers have been received by the Library and will be available for patron check-out July 1st. The Board has been notified that a new Board member can be appointed to replace a current Board member who is no longer attending the meetings and cannot be contacted. Applications for prosptive members should be directed to the City Secretary. Elections of officers was scheduled for the June meeting. However, since notices of Board appointments had not been sent out by the City, elections of officers was postponed until July. North Euless Elementary School work was displayed at the Library during Texas Public School week in March. Also in March the Children's Librarian presented a workshop in Cleburne for North Texas Library Systems on selecting and weeding children's material. She attended a workshop in Plano on care on audio visual equipment. Sue Morrow, who heads Circulation, received her 15 year service pin in March. All staff members attended a workshop on Interpersonal Communications by the Tarrant Regional Library Assn. One session of the workshop was hosted by Euless Public Library. Mrs. Yarbrough compiled information on a microfische microfilm reader printer needed by the library and sent the information to Mr. Sustaire. Mrs. Yarbrough will include a request for the microfische reader printer in the Library budget. Oakwood Terrace student art work was displayed at the Library during May.
