HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-03-03 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees March 3, 1983 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7: 10 p.m. by Chairman Sonja Adams in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Rod Ashford Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Sue Eichelberger Bill Foreman Members Absent - Chuck Canton, New Member Brenda Ashford Dave Haigler Visitor Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro-Teen Chairman Sonja Adams introduced Chuck Canton, a new Board me-lber. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated January 6, 1983 were approved as written. No meeting was held in February for lack of quorum. - LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Total circulation for January was 9,132, an increase of 27% over the same period last year. Total circulation for Februrary was 9,075, an increase of 14%. There were 400 registrations in January, with 122 out of the city and 1 out of the county. There were 399 registrations in February, with 116 out of the city and 5 out of the county. Twelve requests for interlibrary loans were made in January, with 15 books and one Xeroxed article received. Twelve request were made in February, with 9 pieces of material received. There were 539 in-house reference questions and 497 by telephone in January. There were 663 in-house reference questions and 789 telephone reference questions in February. Sixty reserves were checked out in January and 43 in February. Thirteen art prints were checked out in January and 26 in February. Video cassettes were checked out 521 times in January and 413 times in February. Video games were checked out 183 times in January and 151 times in February. GENEALOGY There were 107 visits to the Genealogy Room in January, with 30 (28%) being from Euless. There were 100 visits in February with 32 t-32%) from Euless. CHILDREN'S SERVICES There were 18 storytime sessions in January, with 385 children and 45 adults attending. One tour was conducted for a private school , with 13 children and 2 adults participating. Sixteen storytime sessions were held in February for 437 children and 69 adults. Four tours were conducted for 170 children and 34 adults from First Methodist Church pre-school. Euless Public Library of Trustees - Regular Meeting January 6, 1983 - Page Two VOLUNTEERS Two volunteers contributed 21 hours in January; three volunteer contributed 28 hours in February. REPORTS AND MEETINGS In January Librarian Betty Yarbrough attended a PLANT meeting ddaling with better Texas Municipal League programs; a TRLA meeting on effective leadership; and a cable T.V. workshop at Dallas Public Library. The Children's Librarian attended a young adults workshop, and she and the Reference Librarian attended a workshop on audio-visual selection. In February Mrs. Yarbrough attended the District 7 Executive Committee meeting, an Automation Committee meeting, a PLANT meeting at the Plano Public Library, a Dale Carnegie Seminar for women city employees, and 60th birthday celebration at the Grapevine Public Library. The Librarian reported that 65 people are currently enrolled in the Adult Basic Education Program. COMMITTEE REPORTS Bill Foreman reported that the Library Expansion would not be included in the upcoming bond election; however, he felt that the Board should continue to keep this need before the City Council and the citizens of Euless. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Chairman Sonja Adams shared a letter of resignation received from former Board member Ginger Smith. The Chairman advised that she had sent Ginger a note of appreciation for her service on the Board. The Chairman also shared a letter she received from Senator Bob McFarland indicating his continuing interest in and support of state-wide library development. COMMUNICATIONS The Board reviewed the recent Mayor's newsletter publicizing library services, and the City of Euless Recreation Dept. Spring Program bulletin which included information on library hours and services. Chairman Sonja Adams circulated Hurst Library Board Minutes for January and February. The Chairman reminded each of the Board members to cast their ballots to elect officers of the Texas Library Association; NEW BUSINESS The Board discussed sending a letter to the City Council setting out specific needs of the Library and requesting that when funds are available from the 50t voluntary donations collected by the City these needs be considered. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
