HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-11-04 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees November 4, 1982 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Vice Chairman Sue Eichelberger in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Rod Asfhord Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Ginger Smith Brenda Ashford Absent Sonja Adams Dave Haigler Bill Foreman APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated October 7, 1982 were approved as written. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Total circulation for October was 7,051, an increase of 9.50 over the previous year. There were 295 registrations, with 75 out of the city and 8 out of the county. There were 384 reference questions and 61 reserves were checked out. Twenty-six inter-library loan requests were made, with 15 pieces of material received. GENEALOGY There were 81 visits in October, with 32 (40%) being from Euless. VIDEOCASSETTES In October 272 videocassettes were checked out. The 8 videogames owned by the library were checked out 38 times. CHILDREN'S SERVICES Ten storytime sessions were held, with 221 children and 25 adults attending. Five tours were conducted for the PEAK students from Lakewood Elementary, Oakwood Terrace Elementary and South Euless Elementary and for the second grade students from Midway Park Elementary. Ninety-five children and 10 adults participated. REPORTS AND MEETINGS The Board Chairman and the Librarian attended the Public Library Association of North Texas Meeting in Denton where Dr. Ray Stevens, a professor at North Texas University spoke on the "Role of the Library Board." The Librarian also attended the North Texas Library System Automation Committee meeting and, along with Sally Cook and Meredith McMannis, attended the District 7 meeting in Stephenville. The Librarian and several staff members attended the meeting of the Friends of the Library meeting. Board member Brenda Ashford spoke at that meeting. Frances Malcolm was elected President of that group, and the group decided to meet more often to encourage more people to participate. The Librarian discussed preliminary plans for a Community Fair to be held in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department in the Spring. Librarian Betty Yarbrough also attended the Texas Municipal League conference in Fort Worth and advised the Board that the Level 4 library funding ($1.50 per capita) would be included in the Texas Municipal League legislative packet. Meredith McMannis, the Children's Librarian, conducted 6 puppet shows at the South Euless PTA Carnival and served as a judge for the carnival booths. Betty Yarbrough has been appointed to the Trinity Arts Foundation Honorary Board of Governors. NEW BUSINESS The Librarian received the budget approved for the Library for the new fiscal year which began October 1st. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
