HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-08-05 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees August 5, 1982 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Sonja Adams at 7:10 p.m. in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Ginger Smith Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Sue Eichelberger Brenda Ashford, Alternate Lori Gopher, Alternate Absent Rod Ashford, Excused Bill Foreman Excused Dave Haigler APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated July 8, 1982 were approved as written with the following correction: Page 2 under "Miscellaneous", first paragraph, . . . the new Adult Basic Education instructor is Betty Arceneaux. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Total circulation for July was 10,556 compared to 9,498 the pre- vious year. There were 316 new registrations, with 72 out of the city and 6 out of the county. Twenty-three requests for inter-library loans were made, with 10 pieces of material received. There were 155 in-house reference ques- tions and 349 phone reference questions. Sixty-nine reserves were checked out. GENEALOGY There were 91 visits in July, with 40 (44%) being from Euless. VIDEOCASSETTES In July 285 videocassettes were checked out. CHILDREN'S SERVICES Twenty storytime sessions were held in July, with 450 children and 27 adults attending. Three special programs were conducted with 106 children and 11 adults attending. Dr. Gene Giggleman, a veterinarian, presented a program and film on care of pets. Euless Public Library of Trustees Regular Meeting August 5, 1982 - Page Two VOLUNTEERS Five youth volunteers and one adult volunteer contributed 514 hours in July. One of the youth volunteers, a Boy Scout working on his community service badge, helped the Children's Librarian sand the puppet theater in preparation for a puppet show. REPORTS AND MEETINGS Mrs. Yarbrough attended the Texas Library Association Annual Assembly in Houston, which included district planning, proposed public library standards and proposed library legislation to increase per capita aid from the State to public libraries. MISCELLANEOUS Free bookmarks are being provided to the Library by Hurst-Euless Printing Company. The Euless Recreation Department has given the Library a page in the Fall Schedule booklet giving the hours, services and programs at the Library. The Librarian invited all Board members to the Texas Library Association District Meeting to be held in Stephenville on October 15, 16, 1982. The Friends of the Library participated in the Trinity Arts Foundation Heritage Festival at North Hills Mall on July 31st and August 1st by sponsoring a book sale. The sale netted $519.00. One-half of the proceeds will be used to purchase material for the GenealogyRoom; the other half will be used to purchase an art bin for the art prints now available for check-out at the Library. NEW BUSINESS The Board received a letter of resignation from Marilyn Adamson. The Board regretfully accepts her resignation and wishes to extend to her our appreciation for her time and effort in serving on the Library Board. Ginger Smith was appointed as a Board member and Lori Copher appointed as an alternate. Sonja Adams circulated minutes received from the City of Hurst Library Board. The motion was made to approve the rules and fees governing check- out of art prints recommended by the Librarian. The Board voted to approve such recommendations. The recommendation was made to advertise the Northeast Mall Book Sale and the availability of art prints for check-out in the Mid-Cities section of the Dallas Times Herald.
