HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-07-08 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees July 8, 1982 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Sonja Adams at 7:03 P.M. in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Rod Ashford Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Bill Foreman Brenda Ashford, Alternate Ginger Smith, Alternate Absent Visitor Marilyn Adamson Willie Mae McCormick, Sue Ann Eichelberger, excused Mayor Pro-Tem Dave Haigler APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated June 3, 1982 were approved as written. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Total circulation for June was 12,851 compared to 11,675 the previous year. There were 407 new registrations, with 128 out of the city and 7 out of the county. Seventeen requests for inter-library loans were made in June with 18 pieces of material received. There were 102 in-house reference questions and 319 phone reference questions. Seventy-nine reserves were checked out. GENEALOGY There were 84 visits in June, with 31 (37%) being from Euless. VIDEOCASSE F1'ES In June 311 video cassettes were checked out. CHILDREN'S SERVICES The librarian reported that as of the end of June, 575 children had registered for the Summer Reading Program. Euless Public Library of Trustees Regualr Meeting July 8, 1982 - Page Two Sixteen storytime sessions were held in June with 414 children and 23 adults attending. Five special programs were conducted: four puppet shows and a special film for a Girl Scout Troop. Two hundred fourteen children and 11 adults attended those programs. VOLUNTEERS Three volunteers contributed 272 hours of work in June. Nancy Bentley, volunteering in the Genealogy Room, has compiled an annotated bibiliography of the material in the Genealogy Room, divided by states. This compilation gives quick easy access to the information in the Genealogy Room. Additionally, two youth are helping in the library and a Boy Scout working on his community service badge will be working on the puppet theatre. REPORTS AND MEETINGS Mrs. Yarbrough attended two IBM computer information classes to aide her in working with the computer-assisted circulation system to be utilized by the library. She met with the Genealogy Book Committee of the Friends of the Library to select books for the Genealogy Section. She also attended the District Seven Executive Committee Meeting. Sally Cook and Sue Morrow, the reference librarian and the circulation librarians, attended a Texas State Library workshop on micro- computers in libraries. An oil painting purchased by the North Hills Mall Management during the Trinity Arts Foundation Art Sale was presented to the Library. MISCELLANEOUS Beverly Arceneauz is the new Adult Basic Education instructor. The Mid-Cities Genealogical Society presented a plaque to the Library in memory of Mrs. Evelyn (Sis) Perkins. The plaque will be placed in the Genealogy Room. A typewriter is now available in the library for public use. Bill Foreman was appointed Chairman of the Building Use Committee, to study library addition and use of space. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Board voted on and approved the following amendment to the Euless Library Board By-Laws: (page 7) : Euless Public Library of Trustees Regular Meeting July 8, 1982 - Page Three "FINES Fines, fees, services and replacement costs shall be as approved by the Library Board and the City Council and posted by the Director." NEW BUSINESS The Librarian submitted to the Board the proposed listing of duties and responsibilities of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees to be included in a City Boards and Commissions Handbook published by the City. It was approved as submitted by the Librarian. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
