HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-06-03 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees June 3, 1982 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Bill Foreman at 7:00 P.M. in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Sonja Adams Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Sue Eichelberger Rod Ashford, New Member Absent Marilyn Adamson Dave Haigler APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated April 8, 1982 were approved as written. No meeting was held in May for lack of a quorum. Chairman Bill Foreman introduced Rod Ashford, a new Board member. The Chairman made the following correction of the Library Board membership list dated May 25, 1982--- Bill Foreman's residence telephone should be correctly shown as 283-0923. LIBRARIAN"S REPORT Total circulation for April was 8,216 compared to 5,569 the previous year. Total circulation for May was 7,255 compared to 5,945 the previous year. The Librarian reported circulation for the months of Feb. , March, April and May of 1982 as compared with the same period of 1981 increased 281 %. There were 317 new registrations in April , with 76 out of of the city and 8 out of the county. There were 260 new registrations in May, with 79 out of the city and 2 out of the county. Twenty requests for inter-library loans were made in April with 7 pieces of material received. Ten requests for inter-library loans were made in May with 18 pieces of material received. There were 384 in-house reference questions and 139 phone reference questions in April . There were 227 in-house reference questions and 238 phone reference questins in May. Thrity-seven reserves were checked out in April ; eighty six were checked out in May. GENEALOGY There were 110 visits in April , with 52 (47%) being from Euless. There were 77 visits in May, with 24 (31%) being from Euless. VIDEOCASSETTES In April 227 videocassettes were checked out. In May 227 were checked out. Euless Public Library of Trustees Regular Meeting June 3, 1982 - Page Two STORYTIME Seventeen sessions were held in April with 332 children and 54 adults attending. Fourteen sessions were held in May with 321 children and 43 adults attending. VOLUNTEERS Two volunteers contributed 4 hours of work in April and 25 hours of work in May. REPORTS AND MEETINGS In April Mrs. Yarbrough attended the TLA (Texas Library Association) meeting, the Plant (Public Library Administratiors of North Texas) meeting on weeding, the TRLA (Tarrant Regional Library Association) meeting on time management, the Automation Committe meeting of the NTLS (North Texas Library System) , a volunteer seminar, the Sunset Committe hearing of TSL (Texas State Library and Archives commission) and the Friends of the Library meeting. In May Mrs. Yarbrough attended a team building workshop in Carrollton along with a staff member, the Trinity Arts Foundation meeting with Julia Wakely, the North Texas Co-op Cooperating Committe Adult Basic Education meeting, the PLANT meeting which included a tour of the Dallas Public Library, the Advisory Council meeting in Burleson, TRLA and the Automation Committe meeting of the NTLS. During the months of April and May Meredith McMannis visited the six local elementary schools, approximately 138 classrooms, to promote the Summer Reading Program. All the staff members attended a TRLA workshop in April on Communications, public relations and management. The Public Libraries class of Texas Woman's University School of Library Science visited the Library to see how a small public library operates. NEW BUSINESS Mrs Yarbrough reported that a new schedule of library fees had been approved by the City Council and that an amendment to the By-Laws needed to be made to reflect the new fees. The changes in fees consisted of limiting the maximum fine on any item to $5.00 or the cost of the item, whichever is less, adding fines of $1 .00 for records and 16mm films returned in the bookdrop, and adding a reprocessing fee of $3.00 to the cost of a replacement item to cover clerical costs of reordering the item and reprocessing it. Euless Public Library of Trustees Regular Meeting June 3, 1982- Page Three The motion was made and seconded that the section of the Euless Library Board By-Laws relating to fines (p.7) be amended to reflect that fines shall be as approved by the Library Board and the City Council and posted by the Director,thereby eliminating the necessity to amend the By-Laws each time the schedule of fines is changed. The following board members were elected to serve as new Library Board officers beginning with the July meeting Sonja Adams, Chairman Sue Eichelberger, Vice Chairman Brenda Ashford, Secretary The July Board of Trustees meeting has been moved to July 8, 1982 so as not to conflict with the 4th of July holiday weekend. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that books have been ordered with the money received from the Community Betterment Fund. Those books should be received soon.
