HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-01-07 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees January 7, 1982 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Bill Foreman at 7:02 P.M. in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Sonja Adams Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Peggy Waller Marilyn Adamson Absent Doug Adamson, Alternate Sis Perkins (excused) APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated December 3, 1981 were approved as written with the following addition: Page 2 under Reports and Meetings, paragraph 3. . . . purchase large print books and books on cassette tapes. LIBRARIANS REPORT Total circulation for December was 5,189 compared to 4,814 the previous year. There were 209 new registrations with 41 being out of the City and 3 out of the County. Twelve requests for inter-library loans were made with 12 pieces of material, 2 microfilm and 2 zeroxed pieces received. There were 127 in house reference questions and 186 by phone, 124 reserves were checked out. GENEALOGY There were 43 visits with 24 (56%) being from Euless. VIDEOCASSETTES One-hundred three videocassettes were checked out in December STORYTIME Nine sessions were held with 127 children and 20 adults attending. REPORTS AND MEETINGS Mrs. Yarbrough and Meredith McMannis attended a workshop on Voluntarism at Garland. They had a luncheon meeting with the HEB elementary Euless Public Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting January 7, 1982 - Page Two librarians. Mrs. Yarbrough and Sonja Adams attended the Advisory Council. Mrs. Yarbrough attended a TRLA meeting in regards to county funding. When the county budget public hearing date is set the TRLA Committee would like as many lay people as possible to attend to help stress the importance of library funding. She also attended a NTLS Automation Committee meeting. Volunteers contributed 22 hours of work in December. Mrs. Yarbrough sent in the Board of Trustees dues to the Texas Library Association. Sonja Adams reported on the logo - Supermarket of the Mind - that the Advisory Council is promoting for library public awareness. A recommendation was made by the board that this stamp be placed on the city water bills as well as being put on any other possible public mailings. Mrs. Adams also reported from the Advisory Council Meeting that HoBo BaBo programs will be put on Cable TV geared for fourth and fifth graders in regards to occupations. She also reported the System headquarters will be moved to the Fort Worth Public Library. BUSINESS Mrs. Yarbrough read the Reconsideration of Library Material received on the book ' Beastly Boys and Ghastly Girls' . The book was read by the board members after discussion. The board recommended to the librarian the book remain on the shelf. Mr. Foreman reported the need for a board member . The proper form should be sent to the prospective member. Mr. Foreman suggested we have a young person of high school age serve on the board as an alternate. He will check with the Scout Council in regards to having this position serve as a requirement for the Eagle Badge. Mrs. Yarbrough reported the library has received from the IRS reproducable glossy prints of all the forms necessary for filing taxes. Mrs. Yarbrough will make a list of all abbreviations pertaining to the library for the board members. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:12 P.M.
