HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-12-03 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees December 3, 1981 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Chairman Bill Foreman at 7:02 in the Fuller Room of the Library. Members Present Staff Present Sonja Adams Betty Yarbrough, Librarian Sis Perkins Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro-Tem Marilyn Adamson APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the meeting dated October 1, 1981 were approved as written. No meeting was held in November. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Mrs. Yarbrough reported circulation for October at 6,434 and November at 5,901 compared to 5,806 and 5,609 for the previous year. There were 311 new registrations in October with 75 being out of City and 3 out of the County. November had 299 new registrations with 62 being out of the City and 1 out of County. In October there were 20 requests for interlibrary loans with 2 pieces received and 5 microfilm received. In November 16 requests were made, 17 pieces of material received and 2 microfilm received. October had 98 in house reference questions and 191 by phone. November had 97 in house and 210 by phone. October had 41 reserves checked out and November had 68. GENEALOGY ROOM There were 87 visits in October with 43(49%) being from Euless and 1 visitor from Utah. November had 61 visitors with 33(54%) from Euless with 2 visitors from Missouri and 2 from San Antonio. VIDEOCASSETTES In October there were 163 checked out with November having 167 . STORYTIME October had 3 sessions with 256 children and 34 adults attending. November had 6 sessions with 125 children and 17 adults. In November the PEAK classes visited .the library in 3-sessions with 66 children and 8 adults attend- Euless Public Library Board of Trustees Regular Meeting December 3, 1981 - Page Two ing. Mrs. Yarbrough presented the program on How to Research. On November 18 during Childrens Book Week a program was held at the Library with 5 children and 9 adults attending. Also on November 18 and 19 four groups from the First Methodist Pre-School came to the library for tours and special storytime with 119 children and 37 adults attending. REPORTS AND MEETINGS In October Mrs. Yarbrough attended the following meetings: The Friends the PLANT meeting in Mesquite, the TRLA meeting, the District 7 meeting in which Mrs. Yarbrough was elected Vice Chairman/Chairman elect for the District, a volunteer seminar on "How to Work With Volunteers" , Texas Municipal League meeting. November meetings attended were: Open house at the Denton Public Library, an Energy Workshop in Richardson with Peggy Waller, a program at the Arlington Public Library honoring the board members and volunters, PLANT meeting in Sherman, two classes on Planning Process for Public Libraries, open house at the Euless Public Library on November 15, the 2nd session of the Volunteer Seminar, a genealogy workshop and a TRLA committee meeting in regards to County funding. Two volunteers are currently working at the library contributing 14 hours in October and 252 hours in November. A $1,000 gift from the HEB Chapter 1251 AARP was received and was used to purchase large print books. The new Childrens Librarian is Meredith McMannis. The Board of Trustees wishes to thank Betty Yarbrough for the great job she is doing plus serving on so many committeesand representing us so well . We also wish to thank Sis Perkins for the outstanding job she did planning and preparing for the success of the open house held at the Euless Public Library on November 15. Bill Foreman presented a rough draft of a future expansion for the library. A written complaint was received on a book entitled "Beastly Boys and Ghastly Girls" . The board members will each read the book and present a recommedation at the January meeting. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:43 P.M.
