HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-11-06 REGULAR MEETING EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES November 6, 1980 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order by Vice Chairman Sonja Adams at 7 : 31 p .m. in the Fuller Room of the Library. Other members present were Sis Perkins, Betty Potthoff , and Marilyn Adamson. Absent were Bill Forman and Peggy Waller. Also attending was Betty Yarbrough, Children ' s Librarian, Mrs . Geneva Armstrong, Librarian, and Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro Tem. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated October 2, 1980, were approved with the following addition. Under Call to Order, paragraph 2 , Mrs . Geneva Armstrong was not in attendence due to illness. LIBRARIAN' S REPORT Mrs. Armstrong reported circulation was down compared with the same month one year ago. The total was 5, 806 with one year ago being 6, 752. There were 1 , 068 new re- gistrations with 810 adults and 283 juveniles. This figure in- cludes all the re-registrations which started October 1 , 1980. In this count a record is being kept on how many registrations are out of the City and how many are out of the County. There were 68 walk in reference questions and 110 by phone. Twenty reserved books were checked out, sixty-four requests were made for inter-library loans with nineteen pieces of material sent in response. Mrs . Armstrong reported she and Betty Yarbrough attended the TRLA meeting in Haltom City on October 17, 1980, and the District 7 meeting of the Texas Library Associa- tion in Denton on the evening of October 17 and 18 , 1980. Mrs . Armstrong attended the Southwestern Library Association Conference held in San Antonio October 28 - Nov. 1 , 1980. GENEALOGY ROOM In October 46 people made 72 visits . Yarbrough reported Storytime had 15 sessions with 318 children and 37 adults attending. There were 30 vido cassettes borrowed with 411 showings and 93 viewers. The circulation time on the video cassettes has been extended to three days instead of two. Mrs . Yarbrough reported Childrens Book Week will be November 17 , 1980 through November 23, 1980 . A special program will be held on November 17, 1980. The winners of the Book Mark Contest will each be awarded a book. This is being held in conjunction with the Public Schools. DISCUSSIONS Al Hammel has an arrowhead collection displayed in the display case. Mrs . Yarbrough reported Trinity High School is going to put on a 30 minute portion of 'Sound of Music ' at the Library. This will be held on December 3 , 1980 , at 12 : 10 p.m. A discussion was held on the articles that have been in the Mid-Cities Daily News during the last couple of months giving publicity on the Library. STANDING COMMITTEES Sis Perkins read the minutes of the last meeting of the Friends of the Library. She also reported the Book Sale will be held at Northeast Mall with the date yet pending. A poster will be made and displayed at the Library asking for book donations. NEW BUSINESS Mrs. Armstrong ask the board members if they would like to move the regular meeting time to 7 : 00 p.m. instead of 7 : 30 p.m. It was suggested we wait until the December meeting to make a decision and to see if it would be convenient for the absent members.
