HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-10-02 ...... ice, REGULAR MEETING EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES OCTOBER 2 , 1980 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7 : 40 p.m. , in the Fuller Room of the Library, by Chairman Bill Forman. Other members present were Sonja Adams, PeggyWaller, and Marilyn Adamson. Absent were Sis Perkins and Betty Potthoff. Also attending was Betty Yarbrough, Childrens Librarian. Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian, was not in attendance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated September 4, 1980, were approved with the following correction: Under Librarians Report, paragraph 2 , it should read . . . Euless City Council approving Barbara Zieschang as the Lay Representative, with Peggy Waller as Alternate. LIBRARIAN' S REPORT Mrs. Yarbrough reported total circulation for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1980, was up over one year ago. The September total was 6, 993 and year end total was 102, 068 . Mrs. Yarbrough expressed thanks to Peggy Waller, Sis Perkins, and Barbara Zieschang for the refresh- ments they furnished for the TRLA meeting held on September 19 , 1980. Mrs. Yarbrough reported the library has started new registrations to update the files . The new card will expire in three (3) years, enabling the library to maintain current records. New sheets were handed out with the By-Law corrections. All board members are to place these in their By-Law books. Mrs . Yarbrough stated the library had to cut back their hours from 58 to 52 per week due to the budget cut. They will close at 6 : 00 p.m. instead of 9 : 00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday nights. One part-time employee was lost and the hours of the other two part-time employees have been cut. This will be in effect from October 1, 1980, through September 30, 1981. (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Public Library Board of Trustees October 2, 1980) Mrs. Yarbrough also reported Storytime held 12 sessions with 228 children and 36 adults attending. There were 28 cassettes checked out with 36 showings and 70 viewers . This was down but a change in distribution of the cassettes will hopefully help. Mrs. Yarbrough purchased 12 new cassettes with the money left in the audio-visual budget. Mrs. Yarbrough reported on the meet- ing she had with the two new Elementary Librarians and the pro- gram planned for Library Week. GENEALOGY ROOM In September fifty-four visits were made to the Genealogy Room. Euless 26 Bedford 13 Hurst 5 Colleyville 5 N. Richland Hills 1 Arlington 1 Ft. Worth 3 DISCUSSIONS Mrs. Yarbrough reported the new carpet is being installed in the Library, which was purchased from Revenue Sharing Funds . Mrs. Yarbrough reported on the TRLA meeting. There is a film available for group usage showing what is available at the Library. Mr. Bill Forman inquired about funds received from the North Texas Library System. These funds are used primarly for the purchase of new books. Mrs. Yarbrough explained how the County funds Libraries and what changes are being proposed in this procedure. Mrs. Yarbrough reported on the meeting of the Friends of the Library. They will hold their book sale in April. Mrs . Betty Potthoff is to write an article explaining that the public is welcome to donate books for this sale.
