HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-07-10 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees July 10 , 1980 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7 : 38 p.m. by acting Chairman Sonja Adams. Other members present were Bill Foreman, Betty Potthoff, Peggy Waller and Marilyn Adamson. (Absent was Sis Perkins . ) Also attending were Mrs . Betty Yarbrough, Children' s Librarian; Mrs . Geneva Armstrong, Librarian; Barbara Zieschang, Honorary Board Member; and Mrs . Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro Tem. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated April 3 , 1980 were approved as read. LIBRARIAN' S REPORT Mrs. Armstrong reported the total circulation for June was 12 , 988 . There were 378 new registrations - 183 adults and 195 juveniles. This is a 5 . 9% increase in circulation over this same month one year ago and also a record for the Euless Public Library. Mrs. Armstrong reported on the enforcement of the ordinance passed by the Council in October in regards to overdue books . There has been good publicity plus good results . A notice is sent the first week after the book is due. Then a certified letter is sent with a copy of the title and the cost of replacement of the material. Thirty days after sending the certified letter, it is given to the Warrant Officer. As of July 1, 1980 , the library will collect fines for 365 days per year at the present rate of $ . 03 per day. Mrs . Yarbrough reported on the great success of the VHS Video cassettes. Seventy-one were borrowed in June as compared to fifty-eight in May. There were 102 showings with 272 viewers. She reported the system is going with the program. Mrs . Yarbrough reported on Storytime - preschool children - held 11 sessions with 184 children and 36 adults attending. Afternoons at the Library - elementary children - held 8 sessions with 406 children and 25 adults attending. The Summer Reading Club had 572 register in June . Feature films had 4 showings with 210 attending. (Page Two , Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board of Trustees, July 1U , 1980) Mrs . Yarbrough gave a mini-workshop at Wichita Falls . GENEALOGY ROOM In May thirty people made forty- eight visits. Armstrong stated approval has been given to the society to set up their own subject files. Permission has also been given to turn over or sell to the society the ancestor sheets that the library has . ELECTION OF OFFICERS Bill Foreman was nominated by Barbara Zieschang and seconded by Betty Potthoff to serve as Chairman. The vote carried unanimously. Sonja Adams was nominated by Bill Foreman and seconded by Barbara Zieschang to serve as Vice Chairman. The vote carried unanimously. Marilyn Adamson was nominated by Sonja Adams and seconded by Barbara Zieschang to serve as Secretary. The vote carried unanimously. Betty Potthoff was nominated by Sonja Adams and seconded by Peggy Waller to serve as Historian. The vote carried unanimously. (Page Three, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board of Trustees , July 10, 1980) NEW BUSINESS Mrs. Yarbrough reported from TRLA the need to contact County Commissioners concerning county library funding. Barbara Zieschang is putting figures together from Tarrant County to present to the Commissioners . ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8 : 25 P. M.
