HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-04-03 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees April 3, 1980 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Vice-Chairman Brad Hassard. Other members present were Betty Potthoff, Sonja Adams, Sis Perkins and Bill Foreman, Alternate. (Absent were Dorothy O'Daniel and Dottie Ragley. ) Also attending were Mrs. Betty Yarbrough, Children' s Librarian, Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian, Barbara Zieschang, Honorary Board Member, and Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro Tem. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated February 7, 1980, were approved with the following correction: On page 2 under New Business, paragraph 2 line 5, it should read "with" the South Texas Library System for 2 years, instead of "to" the South Texas Library. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The total circulation for March was 8,884. There were 180 new registrations - 127 adults and 53 juveniles. We had 47 inter-library loan requests with 37 pieces of material sent in response. We had 86 walk-in reference questions and 162 by telephone. On March 3, Betty Yarbrough and Mrs. Armstrong met at Bell High School with the librarians of our two high schools and all of our junior high schools to discuss how we could have closer cooperation between the school librarians and the public libraries. On March 7th there was a special Open House at the new Hurst library for TRLA and public library administrators of North Texas (Dallas group) . On March 14th, Mrs. Yarbrough and Mrs. Armstrong attended a workshop on Advanced Management in Garland. On March 24th Betty Yarbrough and Carolyn Hoots went to the Duncanville Library for a workshop on Children' s Programming. On March 27th Betty Yarbrough attended a planning committee of the North Texas Library Systems at the Fort Worth Public Library. Our library has been chosen one of twelve from the North Texas Library System to participate in the pilot program (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board of Trustees, April 3, 1980) of movies on the half inch VHS video cassettes. We will receive a packet of these for circulation. These are the cassettes that you play through a machine on your television. Betty Potthoff has an article for the newspaper. Bedford, North Richland Hills and Euless were the libraries chosen in this area to participate in this pilot program. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that the South Euless Elementary School 4th graders visited the library (65 children) . Two groups from First Methodist Pre-School visited our library, also (80 children) . For March, Mrs. Yarbrough had 18 preschool story times with 408 children and 61 adults. Mrs. Yarbrough spoke to the Mid-Cities Genealogical Society. We have a volunteer, Jackie Edwards, coming every Tuesday afternoon to help with odd jobs. GENEALOGY ROOM 46 people made 61 visits. Worth 3 ( 6.5%) 4 ( 6.5%) Lewisville 1 1 North Richland Hills 1 1 Out of State 1 1 FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Sis Perkins reported that the book sale brought in $1 ,060.00 of which $75.00 must go for insurance. They are thinking about having another sale in the fall . Betty Potthoff took care of the publicity for this sale (radio and newspaper) . SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORT Bill Foreman discussed the ways we can conduct a survey for our library. The Deproso Study recommended a day in October for the survey. We can use the figures from the survey as needed for our library. Bill will proceed to get the needed materials for this survey. (Page Three, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board of Trustees, April 3, 1980) GENEOLOGY SOCIETY The Society would like permission to set up their own card file by subjects for the genealogy room. Mrs. Armstrong will let them know at the next meeting. The Society would like to buy all of the libraries "ancestor sheets". They are selling them cheaper than the library. This will have to be discussed with the City Manager.
