Other members present were Betty Potthoff, Sonja Adams, and Sis Perkins. (Absent were Dorothy O'Daniel , Brad Hassard, and Bill Foreman, Alternate.) Also attending were Mrs. Betty Yar- brough, Children's Librarian; Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian; and Mrs. Barbara Zieschang, Honorary Board Member. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated January 3, 1980, were approved as read. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The total circulation for January was 8,668. There were 259 new registrations - 98 adults and 61 juveniles. We had 23 inter-library loan requests with 41 pieces of material received. We had 59 reserved books checked out in January. On January 18, our library hosted the Tarrant Regional Library Association (TRLA) meeting. Ms. Maxine Merriman of General Dynamics Library and a former graduate instructor at TWU was the speaker. Barbara Thompson and Carolyn Hoots from Technical Processing were present. The subject was AV cataloging. On January 22 in Euless and January 24 in Haltom City TRLA sponsored Mrs. Margaret Nichols, NTSU Professor, in a Rerence Interview workshop. This enabled all of our staff to take advantage of this opportunity. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that we had 15 preschool story times with 308 children and 53 adults. On January 8, Mrs. Yarbrough gave a special tour of the library to 9 children in the Peak Program at North Euless Elementary. She taught them how to do research. The children really enjoyed this. Mrs. Yarbrough called our attention to the newly framed copies of the Library Bill of Rights and The Freedom to Read. They are hanging next to the display case, While the Hurst Library is moving into their new questions, we will be handling their film bookings. We may continue to do this. (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board of Trustees, Feb. 7, 1980) This will increase our non-book circulation. GENEALOGY ROOM 51 people made 96 visits. Euless - 27 people (52.9%) made 58 visits (60.4) Bedford - 7 people (13,7%) made 16 visits (16.6%) Hurst - 5 people (9.8%) made 5 visits (5.2%) Irving - 4 people (7.8%) made 4 visits (4. 1%) Colleyville - 3 people (5.8%) made 7 visits (7.2%) Fort Worth - 3 people .(5.8%) made 4 visits (4. 1%) Mesquite and North Richland Hills each had 1 person making 1 visit. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Sis Perkins reported that the sale is set for March 28 and 29. There is some problem as to where it will be held. North East Mall is now requiring that organizations have their own insurance. Sis is checking into the insurance and will report later on the "Friends" decision. Books for the sale are to be brought to the library. It was suggested that we put this in the Mayor's Newsletter, also. Publicity needs to get some information out on this. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Mrs. Armstrong passed out the new revised page 5 of our by-laws. Those who were not here to receive them may get them from her. NEW BUSINESS Dotty Ragley attended the North Texas Library System meeting on January 31 . The planning committee of which she is a member, went over the budget and decided to recommend to continue use of the budget formula they are now using. Perhaps next year, they may implement the Amarillo formula. At the regular meeting the committees reported on the various things that they recommended the advisory Council to act upon. They included accepting the Black Hawk experiment for a tribal run of 6 months (about video cassettes being checked out by the librarian) , leasing 6 to 12 films to the South Texas Library System for 2 years, imposing a fine on the patron who does not pick up or cancel a film that has been requested, and more continuing education workshops. These are only recommendations and have not been acted upon at this time by the advisory council . (Page Three, Regular Meeting, Euless Public Library Board of Trustees, Feb. 7, 1980) The board discussed the fact that the library is not noted separately on the city budget diagram. We feel that it should be, and the citizens should know what is allowed for our library. Therefore, we recommend that our chairman check into it and see if the percentage of the whole budget that the library receives can be noted separ- ately on the city budget diagram. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the chairman adjourned the meeting at 8: 12 p.m. /s/ Dotty Ragley Chairman /s/ Sonja Adams Secretary
