CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Euless Public
Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:32 P. M. by Chairman Dotty
Ragley. Other members present were Brad Hassard, Sonja Admas, Betty Potthoff,
and Bill Foreman, Alternate. (Absent were Dorothy O'Daniel , Sis Perkins, and
Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian. )
Also attending were Mrs. Betty Yarbrough,
Children's Librarian and Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick, City Council member.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the regular meeting dated
December 6, 1979, were approved as read.
LIBRARIAN' S REPORT
The total circulation for December was
5,689. There were 120 new registrations - 86 adults and 34 juveniles.
Mrs. Yarbrough reported that we had 10
preschool story times with 174 children and 28 adults.
Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Yarbrough attended
the TRLA Christmas luncheon in Arlington where June Welch, the Texas historian,
spoke.
Mrs. Yarbrough reminded us to notice the
display case. It is a display of fossils that have been found in the Euless
area by Mr. Al Hammel . This display was a result of the display case being
mentioned in the Mayor's Newsletter.
The Tarrant Regional Library Association
(TRLA) will meet in our library on Friday, January 18th. We need to provide
refreshments for approximately 40 people.
GENEALOGY ROOM
For the month of December, there were
31 visits with 19 people making these visits. Euless had 19 visits with 14
people making these visits. Bedford had 4 people who made 5 visits. Hurst 3
visits, and 1 visit each from Irving, Colleyville, Lewisville and La Porte.
SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORT
Bill Foreman has made a copy of the section
of the DeProspo Study that he feels pertains to our interest. He has asked the
Chairman to read this, and see if she feels it is of any further use to us.
(Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board, January 3, 1980)
If so, he will proceed with narrowing the report down to specifics and something
that could be used for the library.
GENEALOGY SOCIETY
Bill Foreman reported that some of the
people using the genealogy room are not signing in and are not being asked to
sign in. There needs to be a sign put up concerning this. Also, explain "why"
we need them to sign in. Mrs. Yarbrough will check on this.
Bill Foreman wanted to know if there
was any more information on the lady who wanted to donate a collection to the
genealogy room. Mrs. Yarbrough had no information on this.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The board recommended a change in the
by-laws, on page 5, paragraph 7, line 5 to read as follows: "may appear at
the Library Board Meeting"; instead of "must appear at the Library Board
meeting".
This was the second reading of the
amendment to the By-Laws. There being no further discussion, a motion
was made by Sonja Adams that we accept this change as read by Bill Foreman.
The motion was seconded by Brad Hassard, and
the motion carried with all in favor.
The vote on this amendment was a temporary
suspension from last month due to Mr. Foreman becoming ill , therefore, there was
not a quorum. The two votes are usually taken in two consecutive meetings.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business,
the chairman adjourned the meeting at 7: 53 P. M.
