HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-12-06 Regular Meeting Euless Public Library Board of Trustees December 6, 1979 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7: 33 P. M. by Chairman Dotty Ragley. Other members present were Brad Hassard, Dorothy O'Daniel , and Bill Foreman, Alternate. (Absent were Sis Perkins, Sonja Adams, and Betty Potthoff. ) Also attending were Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian; Mrs. Betty Yarbrough, Children' s Librarian; and Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick, Mayor Pro-tem. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated November 1 , 1979, were approved with the following corrections: On page 1 under Librarian' s Report, paragraph 3, it should read Sally Cook and Betty Yarbrough attended a Census Workshop in Arlington. On Page 3 under Unfinished Business, it should have stated that the secretary sent Linda Tarvin a letter concerning the recommendation of the Board about her request. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The total circulation for November was 7, 131 . There were 163 new registrations - 137 adults and 26 juveniles. We had 41 reserve books checked out. We had 46 interlibrary loan requests with 22 pieces of material received. The new city ordinance passed on overdue books has been very effective. We have had $558. 03 paid in for lost books and library materials in these first two months of the fiscal year. There was a paragraph in the Mayor' s Newsletter concerning the display case. We have had two definite responses from this. Mrs. Yarbrough reported that. in November we have twelve preschool story times with 256 children and 38 adults. Mrs. Yarbrough visited all six of the elementary schools in Euless with a poster and letter promoting Children's Book Week and the special Saturday program. Fourteen children came to the program. This information was in the newspaper also. (Page Two, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board, December 6, 1979) GENEALOGY ROOM For the month of November, there were forty-two visits with thirty-three people making these visits. Euless had twenty-five visits with seventeen people making these visits; Bedford had eight people who made eight visits; Colleyville had three people making three visits; Hurst and Irving had two people with two visits each; and Grapevine had one person visit. SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS Bill Foreman gave a report on his reading of the Deprospo Study. GENEALOGY SOCIETY Their membership is up to sixty-nine. The budget allocation for the genealogy room was discussed. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Mrs. Yarbrough reported that the Friends voted to spend $1000 of their funds for a project for the library and the remainder on genealogy books. They voted to buy an opaque projector. We now find that the one we have just needs some minor changes. Mrs. Armstrong has informed them of this. Mrs. Armstrong reported to Sis Perkins that we need a Microfiche Reader Printer. This will been benefit the entire library. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Board did not get to vote on the By-Law change because there was not a quorum present. Bill Foreman was ill and needed to leave the meeting. The By-laws will be voted on at the next meeting. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8: 03 p.m. Sonja Adams, Secretary Dotty Ragley, Chairman
