FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY They plan to have a meeting in September. • The Library will take books all year long. UNFINISHED BUSINESS It was recommended to Mrs. Armstrong that she include something about the library in each of the Mayor' s Newsletters. One suggestion was some information on the Friends of the Library and the fact that they will accept books at the library all year long. We went through the rough draft of the new by-laws and made suggestions and recommendations. These changes will be made for the final copy. Brad Hassard made a motion that we accept these by-laws with the discussed changes made tonight. Sis Perkins seconded the motion and the motion carried with all in favor. It will be brought up again at the next meeting for a second vote before it goes to the City Council . NEW BUSINESS Everyone was given a copy of The Freedom To Read. This was adopted by the library in 1978 and governs all cases of censor- ship. We have received complaints on two different books, one a juvenile book and the other an adult book. Each board member is asked to look at the books, (Page Three, Regular Meeting, Euless Library Board, August 2, 1979) the complaints, and the reviews that Mrs. Armstrong has collected on the books. At the next meeting we will invite those who made the complaints, and the board will present their decision at this time. It was suggested that the board meet earlier than the regular meeting and discuss their opinions before they present their decision on these books. The children' s book is Black is Brown is Tan and the adult book is The Spiritual Community Guide. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the Chairman adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m. /s/ Sonja Adams /s/ Dotty Ragley Secretary Chairman
