MINUTES Correction to the January 4, 1979 minutes , under New BesIness the last paraj.aph should read: A suggestion was made that it would be on a voluntary basis that each Board i*ember join the T.L.A. Those who wish to can, and those who do not read the material or attend any meetings may feel free to drop. LIBRARIAN' S RthPORT - dBILVA ARSTRONG The total circulation of January 1979 was 8,193 . We had 11 story hours with a total of 183 in attendance. 4e had 55 Inter- libeary Loan request with 51 pieces of material sent in response. A former Board wember, Jo Inram, called in to arrange for a telephone interview from 3rd, 4th, and 5th ;rude reading students fru Lakewood zlementary. Each of the students had a ques- tion on a Library subject matter, which on the telephone hook-up was like a conference call with all students being able to hear both the question and the answer. Our Children' s Librarian, Betty Yrbrough, handled the interview and the question which Interested the students the most was " Mow much did it cost to -et a Library Card?" They learned it cost nothing. During the month of January, we had 625 incoming calls of all kinds. This type of activity required a lot of time of our employees . The meetings that were attended were : The Advisory Council of NTLS on January 25th at the Fort Worth Public Library from 10:n0 a.m. til noon by Geneva hrmstrong. The Annual Retort and Texas State Library Statistics work chop held at North Richland Mills Library on January 31st and was attended by Geneva Armstrong and Betty Yarbrough. Betty Yarbrough attended the TRALA meeting in Saginaw on January 19th. Our Geneology 'loom had 56 visitors during January with 514 or 32 visit e from Luless residents . The books remained in proper Dewey Decimal System order this past month. This is the time to write our Ligislators that they fund the Library System at the 17/ level where they are now if not an increase. As this publication has much more moaninful information of whet Is available in our area and what is going on in our district . It tells of things that are free and workshops in the area and like Arlington is preparing an Audio Visual Catalogue for the NTLS district . ors . aremstreng suggested that she will turn in the names after April and the new memoers are appointed to the board as this publication is published quarterly. Frampips OF Thii. LIBRARY The Friends will have the Annual Book Sale at the North ._east !Lail on the 6th and 7th of April . They will be having a few sorting uays in early areh and if any members can help out it would be appreciated. You can contact either Sis Perkins or Helen Payton, President of the Friends, for the time and place. It was asked if we still have a representative from either the Library Staff or the Library Board who atterds the Friends deneral meetings as well as Board meetings? There was also a eu,stien as to what departments in the Library would benefit from the book sales and how and by whom it is determined. The Library Director would like to give imput on the needs of the entire Library. The Chairman was directed to contact oxs . iielen Payton, Friend' s iresident , on this matter . As books for the Friends Book Sale are ootained from many different people with varied and different interest in Library materials . -lso when are the meetings held so that the euard and the Liorary Staff can be represented. Aea BeSiNe—S he question was raised if there had been any determination by the City Attorney in regard to an ordinance for over-due books . ars. Armetreng stated that she spoke to lers . eeuy about it and since rs . Lynn ehackelford had become Assistant City Y,anageor he has asked for some information about it . rehaps re will hear something soon as the Board reccommended that it be done about two years ago. Ars. errestung asked if the Board vented to have amnisty all during April for over-due books to ti ' in with national Library Jeek and also as the A.ayor had suggested to us in the fall we have two months of amnisty for over-due books . Roy Blood mad the motion that we have Anril as the Spring month of amnisty for over-due books for the -Peuless Public Library and that this notice is to be published in the newspaper. It was seconded by ors. Terry .lienneke and the motioned carried. She plans to submit these to the Board for review and aipr-val before being adopted here and sent on to the City Council. This Was thouht to be a good Idea by all members pro2ent 3s it was something that needs to be done and has been in the talin, sti6e for two years . She will have Dr . Minetors help on suc,cestions and will also be writing procedure manuals for every job in the Library es well. This will be a great aid for new employees .
