Regular Meeting
September 7, 1978
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dottie
Ragley at 7:35 n.m. Members attending:
Roy Blood
Bill McCray
Norma Morelock
Dottie Ragley
Sis Perkins
Member absent :
Terry Wieneke
Also attending were Mrs. Geneva Armstrong, Librarian
and Mayor Pro Tem Willie Mae McCormick . We had two guest,
Mrs. Bonnie O 'Brien and Mr. Lynn Shackelford.
MINUTES
August minutes stand as read
LIBRARIAN' S REPORT
The circulation record shows a decrease of -4.3% over
the same period of last year. There were 33 Interlibrary
Loan requests; 38 books and 9 microfilm were sent in
response to requests.
There were 14 Story Hours with 430 persons attending,
and 591 were in attendance for 9 film showings in the
Library.
There were 199 people using the Genealogy Room from
June 13 to September 6th. Out of the 199 users there were
102 from Euless, 29 from Hurst, 24 from Bedford, 27 from
Fort Worth, 9 from Colleyville , 3 from North Richland Hills,
Watuaga, Brownwood and Arlington had one each, there were 2
from out of state .
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Bill McCray gave the report on the material of the
Town Hall meeting that was urged by the Texas Library
Association. He said the time element was the main factor
and thought a promotion questionnaire would be the best
to let the people know what services the Library has to
offer, also to have them give their comments to what they
would like in the library. This information will be forward
to the State Panel .

NEW BUSINESS
Letter came from Mayor Samuels asking for two months amnesty
for all overdue books, The board members thought that one month
would be sufficient. Norma Morelock made a motion that the amnesty
for overdue books will be for the month of October. Seconded by
Sis Perkins. Motion was carried by members.
NORTH TEXAS LIBRARY SYSTEM
There was a Trustee workshop on the 9th of August at the
Fort Worth Library. They had a film showing on what to be aware

of for the Trustees. The name of the film was "Multiple Choice .
We plan to have a showing of this film for our Trustees in the
near future .
Dottie Ragley attended the meeting on September 7,1978 ,at
that time there were 2 new members and 1 alternate elected to
the North Texas Library System Council .
Mrs. Patricia Smith, manager of the Planning and Management
Department of the Texas State Library, spoke that all the N,T.L.S
funds came from the State and Federal sources. People who
articulate needs-get it done . All of the Legislators need to
hear more about the library needs. The N.T.L.S. might have an
Audio Visual workshop in late October, explaining selection,
cataloging, circulation and programming.
They also passed out Spoken Arts Cassetts to the Sustem
members, which will be added to the libraries.
It was recommended to Librarians the care of loan out
film, stressing to the patrons to learn how to use the projection
equipment properly.
It was announced at the meeting that Mesquite Public
Library has a Bibliography of Genealogical Material for sale
around $3 .00 . It was general approved of the board members
present to obtain a copy.
MID-CITIES GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
Sis Perkins reported on the newly formed Genealogical
Society for the Mid-Cities area. There are a total of 61 members
that have joined since it began in June. On September 5,1978
the guest speaker was Mrs. Kit McFarland, President of the
Arlington Genealogical Society. In October there will be a
workshop for beginners and advanced people. In November, Mr.
Kent Carter of the Federal Archives will be the speaker.
ADJOURMENT
No further business, the Chairman adjourned the meeting
at 8 : 50 p.m.
