the ten month total of 75, actual use of the Library :facility
has increased. The Story Hour on Thursday is being offered

(out of copywrite, badly worn, no longer of current interest, etc. )
and sending for rebinding the worn but relevent historical novels
and non fiction relating to the bi-centennial year.
FRIENDS OF THE LIB ?ARY - Dottie Ragley
The FRIENDS are buying (Mrs. Armstrong ' s
selection) four molded animal chairs for the children 's department
of the Library. These especially appeal to amaller children with
short attention spans and will keep them quietly entertained while
older children and parents make their book selections. Arlington
Public Library has had good experience with this type of furniture
in their children's alcove. The FRIENDS plan a bi-yearly newletter
to members covering services of the Library, plans for special
programs and speakers; the October meeting will be a general
open meeting.
FORT `.'ORTII IAJOR RESOUCE SYSTEM - Barbara Zieschang
The State legislature and the Governor
did pass a bill funding the Texas State Library and the Library
Systems at level I for 1976 and level II for 1977. This will
mean a mall reduction in overall monies available for our system,
although it is over 600% (for 76) and over 1000$ (for 77) over
State involvement in library service previously. The State of
Texas has made a beginning at the recognition of the importance
of the libraries as centers of information and education.
The President has vetoed the Education
Appropriation Act of 1976 which would include some federal

funds to libraries and library systems. Texas State Library
is requesting that interested persons write their congressmen
in support of a House override scheduled for September 9. (See
attached) . Without the extra funding our system will need to
cut back some services for 1976. A meeting on August 21 will
evaluate the services now rendered with an eye to what can best
be cut or changed . This is an open meeting (at Haltom City Public
Library at 10 AN) and interested persons are welcome to attend
and voice their suggestions and recommendations.
COUNCIL FOR SOCIAL CONCERNS - Barbara Zieschang

One is an information booklet on City Services and government
structure in Euless as recommended by the Leadership Survey
taken in late 1973. (Fourth priority) The other As a study
